Tell Your Story for National Career Development Month

November 2023.The LLCC Career Center is gearing-up for a college-wide celebration of National Career Development Month (NCDM). We are excited to invite all faculty, administrators and staff to participate in our passive programming for NCDM. In the first week of November everyone will receive an 8 ½ x 14 poster titled “My Story, From Learning to Earning.” The poster has two columns denoting “My Education & Training” and “My Careers.” In support of NCDM, please complete the poster with your education, training and careers/job titles. Higher education organizations and activities, specialized certifications and related information can be included in the education section. Consider adding your high school or training at CACC if it applies.

Place the poster by Nov. 10 on your door, window, cubicle or other highly visible location where students will be able to see and read your information. The poster may prompt conversation and career engagement with students. Your poster can grow throughout the month, by adding photos, favorite quotes or even memes to add context and flair.

During our National Career Development Week activities (Nov. 13-16), we will encourage students to review the posters displayed throughout the college. Students may choose to connect with faculty, administrators or staff who have career paths in their interest area or who have a connection to a school they are considering transferring to for a bachelor’s degree.

Please reach out to the LLCC Career Center with any questions (CareerCenter@llcc.edu). We look forward to learning more about your story. Extra posters will be available in the LLCC Foundation office.

Thank you,
LLCC Career Center

LLCC to sponsor two-week trip to Italy this spring

Travel to Italy with LLCC!LLCC Hospitality and Culinary Arts is planning a two-week trip to Italy May 20-June 2, 2024, which is open to students, employees and the community. An informational meeting on the trip will be held Wednesday, Nov. 8, 5:30 p.m. in Bistro Verde, located in the Workforce Careers Center on the LLCC campus.

The trip, in conjunction with Centro Studi Italiani in Urbania, Italy, will travel to Gradara and the Food Valley of Italy, and includes a capstone weekend in Rome.

While there, various classes will be held in Italian language, culture and culinary heritage and traditions of Italy. This cultural tour will also include meetings with culinary experts, local wine and food producers, restaurant owners and culinary entrepreneurs. Fear 101 a great success

Grim reaper graphic. Lincoln Land Community College Fear 101. It's the last exam you'll ever take.Fear 101, the college’s haunted house sponsored by the LLCC Police Department, entertained a total of approximately 1,680 attendees in October. Daily attendance numbers were:

  • Oct. 13: 280
  • Oct. 20: 500
  • Oct. 27: 420
  • Oct. 28: 480

On average there were 18 student volunteers each night. We gave out over $200 in candy to kids during our lights-on version.

The Police Department would like to specifically thank LLCC’s Art program, Highway Construction Careers Training program, Student Life, Diagnostic Medical Sonography program, IT and the Springfield Police Explorers program as well as all the LLCC faculty and staff who donated items or their time to make the first LLCC Haunted House a huge success.

Provide Thanksgiving meals to students by contributing to the Food Pantry

Throughout the year, the LLCC Food Pantry supports students experiencing food insecurity. As we enter a season of many holiday celebrations and traditions, often centered around food, the need becomes even more apparent. The Third Annual “Operation Full Belly” aims to provide students who elect to participate with the ingredients for a Thanksgiving meal.

Starting today (Nov. 1) through Wednesday, Nov. 15, Student Life will accept donations for these Thanksgiving meal boxes. Collection bins will be around campus, including in the Student Life office (lower level of Menard Hall).

To contribute food, please choose from the list of suggested items so that all the boxes will be comparable. Suggested items are:

  • Biscuit mix
  • Cranberry sauce, canned
  • Gravy, jar or packet
  • Dessert mix & topping/frosting
  • Drink mix, powdered (juice, hot chocolate or cider)
  • Macaroni & cheese, boxed
  • Marshmallows, mini
  • Mashed potatoes, instant
  • Stuffing, boxed
  • Vegetables, canned (corn or green beans)
  • Yams, canned

To contribute monetarily, please visit www.llccfoundation.org/donate and choose “Operation Full Belly” from the Designation drop-down menu. Donations will be used to both shop for items to include in the boxes, as well as to provide students with grocery gift cards to pick up perishable items or something specific to their own traditions. Any donations beyond what is needed for this holiday will be used toward responding to student food concerns at other times.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Student Life staff at studentlife@llcc.edu or 217-786-2241.

Next week is PTK Cheek Week!

Phi Theta Kappa is partnering with Be the Match to connect patients that have blood cancers/diseases to genetically matched donors willing to give life-saving blood stem cells. Donation is safe, free and confidential. The only thing required to join the donor database is a quick (painless!) swab of the cheek. If a match is found at any point throughout the years, the hope is that potential donors will be ready to say “yes!”

Please stop by A. Lincoln Commons between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Nov. 6 or Nov. 8 to join the national registry. Members of PTK, along with members of several other student clubs, will be there to assist with registration and to answer questions.
