Employee Health and Wellness Fair today

As a reminder, the first of two wellness screenings and flu shot clinics takes place today, Oct. 4. All benefit-eligible employees and their spouses are eligible to participate. The second opportunity is Oct. 19. Instructions were emailed yesterday regarding how to register.

Also, the Employee Health and Wellness Fair, “Passport to Self-Care,” takes place in Cass Gym today from 8 a.m. to noon. All employees are welcome, and participation in the health screening is not required to attend. Those in attendance will have a chance to win Fit Bit Smart Watch, three free classes from Ahh Yoga, honey from the LLCC Apiary, a Scheels gift bag including a $25 gift card, one of two $25 VISA gift cards, five free classes from WholeSelf Healing Yoga and Meditation along with additional items provided by Food Fantasies, Illinois Educators Credit Union and Supplement Superstores.

LLCC-Taylorville to host financial aid event Oct. 20

LLCC-Taylorville, 800 S. Spresser, will host Financial Aid Completion Night Thursday, Oct. 20 from 3-6 p.m. to assist high school seniors and their parents/guardians in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

An online registration form and more information on documents to bring to the event are available at www.llcc.edu/taylorville. Registration is also available by calling 217-786-2754.

Current LLCC students who will be attending college next year are invited to attend as well. Prospective students may take a tour of the facilities and get assistance with enrollment steps.

CAS October student worker of the month

Preston Siewert, LLCC Peer TutorCongratulations to Preston Siewert who is the LLCC Center for Academic Success’ October student worker of the month. Preston is a new peer tutor for LLCC this semester but is already in high demand. Their enthusiasm for and dedication to helping fellow students through tutoring has multiple students scheduling regular weekly appointments. Preston’s tutees say that they are incredibly helpful and good at explaining things in ways they understand. Several LLCC staff who have observed Preston tutor have encouraged them to pursue a career in teaching.

LLCC-Taylorville hosted an informational table at the Greater Taylorville Chamber of Commerce Chillifest celebration Oct. 1 and 2. Staff met with prospective students, current students and alumni. Jolene Lamb, community education culinary coordinator, also provided some tasty treats at the event.

Bistro Verde To Go in the Workforce Careers Center
LLCC’s student-led café is open as Bistro To Go yet this week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. It offers a counter service concept with soups, salads, sandwiches, baked goods, coffees and drinks. Place order.

Additional information is available at www.llcc.edu/bistro-verde. Bistro Verde is located inside the east entrance of the Workforce Careers Center on the LLCC Springfield campus.

From Oct. 25-Nov. 17 (closed Nov. 1), the café will transform into Bistro Verde, a casual, dine-in restaurant experience.

SGA to host a Jeans Day tomorrow

The LLCC Student Government Association (SGA) is hosting Jeans Day tomorrow, Oct. 5. All proceeds will be donated to the Sojourn Shelter & Services, Inc. If you would like to participate, please make a minimum donation of $5 in the LLCC Student Life office. Donations can be made in advance of the event or on the day.
