Do you know how to put a cap on domestic violence?

Supporting survivors emotionally and materially is a great step in putting a cap on domestic violence. Here are some other options:

If you want to learn more, consider getting involved with policy making and legislation. Information about domestic violence initiatives is available on the National Domestic Violence Hotline.

Consider becoming an advocate. The Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence reminds us that everyone can be an advocate. There are resources to start your advocacy journey on their website.

Support your local domestic violence agency or shelter. In the LLCC district, here are some options:

  • Sojourn Shelters & Services, Inc. – Springfield, serving: Sangamon, Logan, Christian, Montgomery and Menard counties.
  • Crisis Center Foundation – Jacksonville
  • Dove, Inc. – Decatur, serving DeWitt, Macon, Moultrie, Shelby and Piatt counties
  • Community Hope and Recovery Center – Beardstown

Remember, our website has information on rights and resources for survivors of domestic violence.

Questions concerning Domestic Violence Awareness Month may be directed to Nikki Baker, compliance and prevention coordinator at nikki.baker@llcc.edu or 217-786-3426.

Message from the President: “Be the one”

Be the one. 100 years. United Way of Central Illinois.
On Monday, Oct. 24, LLCC will launch its annual, two-week United Way campaign. The critical work of United Way in our community is near and dear to my heart, as it closely aligns with the values of LLCC. United Way works to address the basic needs, education, financial stability and health of every person in our community. Please consider a gift that will be spread among more than 30 local social service programs. You can also designate your donation to one or more organizations or charities. LLCC supports the United Way campaign and makes payroll deduction available to all employees who participate. Incentives for donors include a jeans day of your choosing and chance to win gift cards to local restaurants and stores.

Be the one who makes a difference!

Learn more and donate on the LLCC United Way donation page.

Thank you,

Charlotte Warren, Ph.D.
President, Lincoln Land Community College

This fall, LLCC Aviation students have been busy! Starting back in August, the program hosted the WWII B-25 Mitchel Bomber and also participated in a community event to test the readiness of Springfield first responders in the event of an airline crash. Students had makeup applied to simulate injuries.

In September, students visited Flightstar Aviation at the Champaign airport. LLCC Aviation hosted the Young Eagle’s rally on two weekends. During this event, school-aged students were given free airplane rides. Later in the month, the Basic Electricity class helped employers out at the Workforce Institute’s Career Expo on campus, and LLCC Aviation set up a display booth at Havana’s Octoberfest.

On Oct. 2, representatives from GE Aviation’s jet engine facility in Indiana came to speak about career opportunities.
