LLCC is hosting a Strategy Forum at tomorrow’s Institutional Improvement Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Cass Gymnasium. The day’s activities were planned by staff associated with the Higher Learning Commission. The Commission will share the day’s agenda at the beginning of the forum. The welcome and general overview will begin promptly at 9 a.m. It is advisable that you plan to arrive by 8:30 a.m.
Everyone should bring a pencil or pen; the Commission and the LLCC AQIP Steering Team will provide everything else needed for participation. Please leave tablets and/or laptops at home or in your office. Neither is needed for the planned activities. Coffee and other beverages will be available in the morning. Lunch will be served at noon.

The LLCC Police Department is offering two Practical Response to Active Shooters training sessions: Fridays, Dec. 5 and 12. Both sessions will run from 1:30-3 p.m. in room 1104 of Sangamon Hall. Training is open to all LLCC faculty, staff or students; however, pre-registration is required (max of 25 participants per session). Please email heather.voyles@llcc.edu to register.
PRACTICAL RESPONSE TO ACTIVE SHOOTERS
There have been approximately 70 active shooter incidents in the U.S. over the past four years; about a quarter of these occurring in schools. If you ever found yourself in an active shooter event, would you know what to do? As with any emergency situation, prior thought and planning play an immense role in our individual response to these highly stressful incidents.
Presented by members of the Lincoln Land Community College Police Department, this hands-on training will provide you with options on what to do during an active shooter incident, teach you the techniques and then give you an opportunity to actually practice these newly learned skills in a supportive, non-stressful environment.

What happens when you are sick or can’t make it to class? How do you communicate information to students outside of class? In this workshop we will discuss ways to use Blackboard to communicate with your students. Topics covered in this workshop will include: using Blackboard to send emails, how to post notifications, and how to use the new text messaging function that is built into Blackboard. Google Mapping Tools can be used for much more than looking up driving directions. This workshop will demonstrate how to use Google Tour Builder to create instructional virtual tours, which can be anything from mapping historical events to charting the important places on a fictional literary character’s journey, and more. Participants will be given the hands-on opportunity to learn how to create and share their own tour.

LLCC is offering additional assistance to Benedictine University Springfield students affected by the recent decision to discontinue educational programs for traditional-aged students there. The Board of Trustees voted unanimously in special session Thursday to allow all current Benedictine students, regardless of home addresses, to attend LLCC at the in-district tuition rate.
“The Lincoln Land Community College Board of Trustees supports the ongoing efforts of our administration to assist Benedictine students who are looking for a new educational home,” said Trustee Jeff Fulgenzi. “Today, the Board voted to allow current Benedictine students to pay in-district tuition rates at LLCC. We hope this will ease their transition and help them take advantage of the high quality, affordable education offered at LLCC.
“We appreciate that these students have made a commitment to our community by choosing to attend college in Springfield. We wish to honor their commitment through our resolution to provide them with in-district tuition rates, and, more importantly, to ease the fears they face in the wake of this unexpected transition.”

LLCC made the Illinois Times’ Best of Springfield 2014 in several categories! Jane Hartman, professor of music, was voted best in the jazz group/artist category. “As the senior music professor at Lincoln Land Community College, she shapes and prods, cajoles and molds students searching to further their abilities in music knowledge.”
LLCC’s Child Development Center placed as a runner-up in the Best Day Care category and College for Kids made runner-up in the Best Summer Camp category.

LLCC students Jordan Roach, Mackenzie Carnes and Ramsey Miller were interviewed Oct. 30 about the upcoming election and Indiana’s Illinoyed advertising campaign.
Jamie Stout, director of Community Education, was a guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Springfield Westside Oct. 29. She shared information about Community Education classes, College for Kids and the Academy of Lifelong Learning.
