2019 tentative budget

The 2019 tentative budget is now available in Colleague for viewing, and requisitions for purchases and blankets can now be entered. The Tentative Budget will be placed on public display at the July LLCC Board of Trustees meeting. A balanced budget will be presented as required by the LLCC Board.

Some things to know about this year’s budget:

  • FY19 budget includes recommended increases in salary and Board approved benefit allocations for FY19. HR will send notification to staff regarding current approved salary increases.
  • The State of Illinois approved a budget for FY19 which includes an appropriation to community colleges.
  • Approved Budget Maintenance and Planning Strategies with funding are included in the budget and available in Colleague.
  • The final documents from the FY19 planning and budgeting process, including approved tech fee & Perkins appropriations, are now posted on the LLCC Finance Department’s SharePoint page. Refer to the document titles that include “by Requestor” for ease in finding your individual items.
  • Additional adjustments may be necessary between now and the adoption of the final budget at the September board meeting.
  • Budget transfers will not be processed until the final budget is approved by the LLCC Board, and those adjustments are made in Colleague. However, if you do not have the necessary funds in your lines to process a payment or PO, a budget transfer must still be prepared and submitted to the budget office. Once the transfer is received and reviewed, we will override the account and will process the transfer once the final budget is online.

It is imperative that departments review their budgets during the year as you make purchases to ensure you are operating within your budget. Directions on running Colleague general ledger reports (ACBL, GLBR and GLBS) are located on the LLCC Finance Department’s SharePoint page. Please familiarize yourself with these reports as they will help tremendously in managing your budget appropriately. If you have any questions or problems, please feel free to contact the LLCC Finance Department.

Bicentennial series presentation Sunday, July 15

Join LLCC’s Academy of Lifelong Learning this Sunday, July 15, at 2 p.m. in the Thorne Deuel Auditorium at the Illinois State Museum, 502 S. Spring St. for “Building Illinois: Entrepreneurialism Flourishes, Workers Rise.” Beginning with 1850s railroad construction, Illinois boomed as an agricultural and industrial powerhouse. Familiar brand names, from Wrigley chewing gum to Swift and Armour meat products, covered the nation. Looking at two specific industries, Mike Matejka will cover not only the business expansion, but the workplace tensions that followed.

Mike Matejka is the governmental affairs director for the Great Plains Laborers District Council, representing over 10,000 union laborers in central and northern Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota. He is a vice-president of the Illinois Labor History Society and a past-president and board member of the McLean County Museum of History. He served 18 years on the Bloomington City Council and is involved in numerous civic and community groups. In 1984 he co-authored, with Greg Koos, “Bloomington’s C&A Shops: Our Lives Remembered,” an oral history collection with railroad shop workers, and in 2000, “Fiery Struggle: Illinois Fire Fighters Build a Union, 1901-1985.”

“In This Place” on display in Murray Gallery through July 26

"In This Place" by Will RedwoodThe James S. Murray Gallery is featuring the exhibit “In This Place” by local artist Will Redwood through July 26. The public is invited to view the exhibit Mondays through Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and attend a reception with the artist on July 18 from noon to 1 p.m.

Through painting, “In This Place” captures the mood of personally meaningful places of being. “We each inhabit our own inner world of contemplation. In this place … we each take part in shaping what will be. We each have our own places of being,” explains Redwood. “These places are the subject of these paintings.”

The symbolism in his paintings conveys paradoxes experienced in life — loss and gain, joy and pain, growth and decay. “When I finish, the painting remains like a passage to that place of being,” says Redwood. “As we are each on a journey of our own, we are all together, and our experiences are often similar.”

Redwood is a painter and vector illustrator as well as the author of two independent storybooks. For six years, he also taught art for the Boys and Girls Club of Springfield. Redwood earned a degree in drawing and graphic design from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 2003. Since then, he has continued to make and show art at various galleries, events and retail spaces.

Teen Career Launch

They were welcomed in the opening session by Dr. Charlotte Warren, LLCC president, and Dr. Cynthia Maskey, dean of health professions. The teens then had the opportunity to follow a patient’s lifesaving story from a mock accident and trauma bay to surgery and then inpatient hospital care. All the while, they were learning more about how health professionals care for the patient along the way.

Those assisting with the afternoon program included: Lori Badgley, Gaye Catlin, Sharon Cheek, Sandra Chvala, Cassandra Clifton, Nick Ferreira, Dr. Lesley Frederick, Dr. Sonja Harvey, Don Kallembach, Diane Liesen, Janelle Murphy, Cindy Smock, Jan Szoke, Chris Tople and two LLCC paramedic students, John Barber and Chadd Butz.
