The second week of traditional College for Kids is wrapping up today. It is the second of three week-long enrichment programs occurring in July. The third week runs July 23-26 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Students who have completed grades K-8 are on campus taking courses such as Backyard Ballistics, Dragon Genetics, Flight of Fantasy, Point and Impress, American Sign Language, Full STEAM Ahead, Powerful Potions and Speedometry!

The James S. Murray Gallery is featuring the exhibit “In This Place” by local artist Will Redwood through July 26. The public is invited to attend a reception with the artist today, July 18, from noon to 1 p.m.
Through painting, “In This Place” captures the mood of personally meaningful places of being. “We each inhabit our own inner world of contemplation. In this place … we each take part in shaping what will be. We each have our own places of being,” explains Redwood. “These places are the subject of these paintings.”
The symbolism in his paintings conveys paradoxes experienced in life — loss and gain, joy and pain, growth and decay. “When I finish, the painting remains like a passage to that place of being,” says Redwood. “As we are each on a journey of our own, we are all together, and our experiences are often similar.”
The exhibit is open for viewing Mondays through Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Redwood is a painter and vector illustrator as well as the author of two independent storybooks. For six years, he also taught art for the Boys and Girls Club of Springfield. Redwood earned a degree in drawing and graphic design from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 2003. Since then, he has continued to make and show art at various galleries, events and retail spaces.

Sean Keeley, culinary specialist, is the author of this week’s Epicuriosity 101 column in the State Journal-Register, “My Latin Passion.”
The teens in the Boys and Girls Club of Central Illinois’ Career Launch spent yesterday afternoon on campus learning about a variety of applied technology and workforce programs and careers. The teens then had the opportunity to learn about small business ownership, automotive technology, truck driver training, construction and electrical maintenance. They even had the opportunity to work on a single-switch wiring project and to build their very own washer toss games!
Those assisting with the afternoon program included: Jolene Adams, Jim Betts, Brian Earley, Jim Gain, Bob Howard, Kevin Lust, Julie Rourke and Tom Spears. Career Launch will continue on Monday afternoons at LLCC through July 30.
For the remainder of the week, the LLCC Softball team will be operating a concession stand in Cass Gym from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Employees might want to check out the menu being served — which includes a daily special, bratwurst, corn dogs, pizza, ice cream and more — as an option for lunch. All proceeds go to LLCC Softball for team supplies and games. Cash only please.

Lincoln Land Community College offers a staff sick leave bank to all classified, professional and administrative, benefit-eligible staff. The sick leave bank can provide extended sick leave to members who are unable to work due to a personal or immediate family illness or injury. If you would like to join the sick bank for the first time OR you would like to donate additional days, please complete the attached form.
