Health Care & Human Services Career Expo happens today

The Career Center is excited to host the Health Care and Human Services Career Expo today, Oct. 29, from 9 a.m. to noon in A. Lincoln Commons. This informal event presents a valuable opportunity for our students to explore various career paths within the health care and human services industries in our community. Employers attending include Memorial, Springfield Clinic, SIU Medicine, HSHS, Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, Illinois Department of Human Services and many more.

We encourage you to motivate students to attend and take advantage of this chance to connect with local employers. Your support can make a significant impact on their career journeys!

Virtual Workshop today, Engage Your Students with H5P Live Engagement Content

With H5P’s live engagement tools, you can engage your students in a completely new way. In this workshop hosted by Jennifer Gardner, from the H5P Core team, you will learn how content types like “The Chase” and “Multipoll” can introduce gamification to your teaching. It is a powerful and fun way to learn!

AIeL Open Office Hours this Friday

The staff of Academic Innovation and eLearning have cleared their calendars and are available for you during their fall 2024 open office hours, this Friday, Nov. 1, from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Visit them on the garden level of Sangamon Hall (Room 0114) for snacks and good conversation, or join us on Teams. They’re ready to talk about all things teaching, pedagogy, Canvas, H5P, digital accessibility and more. All faculty and staff are welcome to visit during their open office hours, regardless of department or teaching modality. If you can’t make it in-person to open office hours, please know that the doors are always open, or you can contact any individual staff member to schedule an in-person or virtual appointment.

BSU Breast Cancer Awareness event today

Pink ribbonOctober is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. LLCC’s Black Student Union would like for you to join them on Oct. 29 in the Student Union from noon until 2 p.m. for the “Paint in Pink” event. LLCC’s own Dr. Leigh Giles-Brown will speak on life after breast cancer. Dr. Giles-Brown was featured on Oct. 1 on WICS to begin Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Then join us for a paint event to create a breast cancer canvas in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Each participant will receive a breast cancer goodie bag with information provided by Sangamon County Health Department and Sarah Price with Temple Elks.

Journaling and Mindfulness This Thursday

Take a moment to relax and recharge during the workday! Join us for the next Journaling & Mindfulness Session and begin with a calming mindfulness exercise to help you step away from daily challenges and clear your mind followed by a journaling prompt to help spark creativity and reflection.

This week’s Student Chef Jonohn Stainback’s Special is chili cheese Irish nachos, southern chicken & waffles with honey drizzle and red velvet cake.

Submit Veterans Day recognition form

United States flagsThe college will honor veterans at its 29th Annual Veterans Day Ceremony, sponsored by LLCC Student Life. The ceremony will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 11 in A. Lincoln Commons with a reception to follow. This event honors all veterans, including LLCC faculty, staff and students who served in the armed forces, and it is open to the public. 

We look forward to honoring those who have served our country. To be included in the printed program, please complete this Veterans Day Recognition Form no later than Nov. 1.
