Winning ticket for the PTK parking spot raffle to be drawn today!

There is still time to enter the Phi Theta Kappa parking spot raffle to win your very own exclusive parking spot! Tickets will be sold today, Sept. 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Phi Theta Kappa table in A. Lincoln Commons. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. The winning ticket will be drawn today at 2:15 p.m.

The Phi Theta Kappa parking spot is located at the southeast corner of Menard Hall. The winner will be able to park in this reserved spot for the fall and spring semesters.

LLCC Food Pantry hours

The LLCC Food Pantry hours of operation for the 2019 fall semester are listed below. The food pantry is located in Student Life and open to any current LLCC student in need, whether short or long term. Students may use the pantry once a week.

  • Monday, 10 a.m.-noon
  • Wednesday, 10 a.m.-noon and 2-5 p.m.
  • Friday, 10 a.m.-noon

“On My Own Time” entry forms and fees due Sept. 12

On My Own TimeEntry and identification forms and fees will need to be submitted by Thursday, Sept. 12 to one of the LLCC coordinators (Misty or Lindee). Contact Misty or Lindee for the entry form. The actual artwork is due to the LLCC coordinators by Monday, Sept. 23.

Springfield Area Arts Council’s On My Own Time (OMOT) program provides LLCC faculty and staff the opportunity to display original art created outside the office. Faculty and staff may each enter up to three artworks created since 2016 for $5 per entry fee. The fee assists SAAC with costs of the OMOT program.

LLCC’s in-house exhibit will be featured on the LLCC-Springfield campus in the Philip and Mary Kathryn Trutter Museum Oct. 1-31.

The city-wide exhibit at the Springfield Art Association (Nov. 6-23) will showcase first place award-winning artwork from all participating businesses, agencies and institutions.

The rules, as well as a detailed category list are attached. Email Misty or Lindee for the entry and identification forms, or with any questions you may have.

Note from Judy Nichols, retired professor of psychology

Hello LLCC community,

When an employee decides to retire after 14 years, usually a time is planned to say goodbye. I decided to retire over the summer to pursue a new adventure, and I was only able to connect with a few before I left. There are many people who have meant so much to me and influenced me in different ways.

To my fellow instructors, especially Ellen Watkins, thank you for all of the support and encouragement provided to me. Thank you to all support staff, such as custodians, campus police, office assistants, technology (to name a few). Because of your good work, my job as an instructor went much more smoothly. I thank everyone at LLCC for creating a pleasant work environment for the past 14 years of my life. I hope I have had a positive impact on some of you, too.

Bistro To Go opens Sept. 10

Bistro Verde in the Workforce Careers Center
Bistro Verde, LLCCs student-run café, will be open during the fall 2019 semester as Bistro To Go on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. from Sept. 10-Nov. 21 (with the exception of Nov. 5). The café, located in the Workforce Careers Center, will offer takeout soups, salads, sandwiches, baked goods, coffees and smoothies prepared by LLCC culinary arts, baking and pastry, and hospitality students.

“The Clouds of Utopia” book signing today

Lincoln Commons today, Sept. 5, from 2-4 p.m. Dave will be signing copies of his book titled “The Clouds of Utopia” published earlier this year by the LLCC Press with the cover designed by Greg Walbert, graphic design manager. Come by and get your signed copy for a reduced price of $15 during this event.

Dr. Chris McDonald, professor of political science, talked to a group of 20 students at Springfield High School where they are starting a Model United Nations club.
