Submissions for Paul Simon Essay Contest due Friday by 3 p.m.

Please encourage students to enter this year’s Paul Simon Essay Contest. An essay of 500 words or less on the topic “How my community college changed my life” gets students entered to win cash and other cool prizes, courtesy of the LLCC Foundation and Bookstore. The local winner will be entered in the statewide competition for the chance to win a $500 scholarship. Students can schedule appointments in the LLCC Writing Center to get help with their essays. The deadline for submissions is 3 p.m. on Friday, March 6. See the 2020 Paul Simon Student Essay Contest flyer or contact the LLCC Writing Center for more information.

Welcome Max Yanor

Max YanorMax Yanor has recently joined the college as a police officer. He previously worked as a 911 dispatcher for the Chatham Police Department over the past year, and as security for Memorial Hospital and a volunteer EMT and firefighter for the last two years. Coffee, tea and hot cocoa sale today

Buy four drinks get the fifth free! Lincoln Land Community College Dance Club: Express Your SeoulLLCC Dance Club: Express Your Seoul is having their monthly coffee, green tea and hot cocoa sale today, March 4, in A. Lincoln Commons from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. In addition, you can donate your change to help stock the LLCC Pantry in Student Life with school supplies! The club will have a jar available at the coffee sale for donations.

Don’t forget your stamp card! If you buy four drinks, you will receive a fifth one free. These cards are good for all coffee sales this semester. If you bring your own mug or cup, coffee, green tea and hot cocoa are just $1. A regular cup of 16 oz. coffee or hot cocoa is $2 with many toppings and creamers to choose from. All donuts and baked treats are $1!

Save the date! Spring Professional Development Day is March 24

The spring Professional Development Day will be held Tuesday, March 24. This event will include morning breakout sessions, the annual employee giving campaign luncheon and afternoon departmental activities. Some topics to be covered in the morning breakouts include: Intermediate Excel, Microsoft Teams, Canvas, Safe Zone training, a DISC Workplace, HLC criteria training, active learning strategies, and presentations from LLCC Human Resources, LLCC Finance and Sangamon County Resources. A complete schedule will be available after spring break.

Academic Calendar Workgroup requests feedback by March 6

The Academic Calendar Workgroup is requesting feedback on proposed academic calendars for the next five years. These calendars represent the following academic years: 2021-2022, 2022-2023, 2023-2024, 2024-2025 and 2025-2026. The workgroup would like your feedback by the end of the day on Friday, March 6. Volunteers sought for Springfield Muni July 10

Mamma Mia! July 10-12, 15-19, 8:30 p.m. directed by Jacob DetersLLCC employees will volunteer at the Springfield Muni Opera’s opening night production of Mamma Mia, directed by Jacob Deters, student engagement coordinator, on Friday, July 10. Eleven more volunteers are needed to join PRM staff from 6-8:30 that evening to work the “front of house” … taking tickets, passing out programs, and assisting attendees to their seats. Volunteers are welcome to stay for the show (free of charge) and will also receive a free treat from the concession stand. PRM will provide an LLCC T-shirt to volunteers.
