Career Launch at LLCC

This summer's Career Launch participants
LLCC has enjoyed hosting teens from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Illinois’ Career Launch program this summer! They learned about such careers as computer science, aviation, health care, criminal justice, welding, HVAC and culinary. The group had a celebration on campus last week and reflected on their time learning about different careers through hands-on activities.

Tree removal and replacement

LLCC Facilities Services is currently coordinating the removal of numerous dead or dying trees on the main campus. The majority of these are mature ash trees which have been damaged by the Emerald Ash Borer, an invasive beetle which has killed hundreds of millions of ash trees in North America.

Facilities Services will be planting new, healthy trees this fall to replace all of the trees that must be removed.

Sign up to help out at the Welcome Week table

LLCC Public Relations and Marketing would appreciate your assistance during fall Welcome Week! PRM is looking for volunteers to assist at the welcome table in A. Lincoln Commons Aug. 22-25 during the first week of fall classes.

Help students get a great start to the semester by greeting them, answering their questions, providing directions and encouraging them to stop by the Welcome Week events hosted by LLCC Student Life! An FAQ reference sheet will be on the table along with highlighters to help in marking students’ routes to their classes.

To sign up, add your name to this fall Welcome Week sign-up sheet or contact Rhilee Cochran.

LLCC and UIS enhance transfer admission agreement

Dr. Jason Dockter, LLCC associate vice president of academic services; Dr. Charlotte Warren, LLCC president; Dr. Janet L. Gooch, UIS Chancellor; and Kathryn Kleeman, UIS director of admissions
Officials of LLCC and UIS signed an agreement today enhancing their partnership to ensure a smooth transition for LLCC students to complete bachelor’s degrees at UIS. The agreement also allows UIS students to utilize reverse transfer credits to complete associate degrees.

Dr. Warren and Dr. Gooch signing the agreementThe transfer admission guarantee agreement enhances advising and coordination of course selection. LLCC graduates transferring to UIS would be admitted as juniors and have the admission application fee waived. They would also be eligible for priority registration the semester before transferring and for transfer merit scholarships based on their grade point average.

“This agreement is representative of our shared commitment to student success and to supporting students throughout their academic journey,” said Dr. Charlotte Warren, LLCC president. “LLCC students have an opportunity to earn an associate degree with us while also having the support and a clear path provided for admission to UIS to earn their bachelor’s degree. This also reflects our continued commitment to our community, keeping local to study, live and contribute to a vibrant economy.”

“This agreement further strengthens the partnership between our two institutions,” said Dr. Janet L. Gooch, UIS chancellor. “It also shows that UIS and LLCC continue to work collaboratively so students have a streamlined path to succeed in their educational and career goals. Both institutions have a strong reputation for building leaders and keeping them here in the community.”

Both LLCC and UIS provide in-person and online course options. LLCC offers more than 30 majors designed for transfer to a four-year university as well as career training degree and certificate programs. UIS offers 49 bachelor’s degrees, 51 master’s degrees and a variety of professional certifications that encompass a wide range of professions.

LLCC students interested in transferring to UIS to complete a bachelor’s degree should speak with their student success coach.

New process for submitting documents to accounts payable

In order to streamline the accounts payable process, we have changed the way documents are submitted to accounts payable.

It is now the responsibility of initiators of the blanket voucher and/or the confirmed and received form to collect ALL approval signatures. The updated forms are located on the Employee Portal > Finance Department  > Accounts Payable.

Finance has also created a video on how to fill out a blanket voucher, save the form, attach the back-up and attach an email approval. The same process would be used for confirmed and received forms. The new forms and the video are located on the Employee Portal > Finance Department  > Accounts Payable. If you have questions on this procedure, contact Viki Bradley.

For confirmed and received forms, budget managers may approve up to $2,500. All purchases/payments over $2,500 must be approved by next level administrator and VP of the division. Blanket vouchers only need to be signed by budget managers.

Remember to submit a requisition for purchases when possible. If you have questions on this procedure, contact Denise Bierman and Jeremy Bliss in purchasing.
