Summer tuition waivers for faculty/staff and dependents due May 15

To all faculty/staff who plan on using the employee tuition waiver for themselves or their qualified dependents for summer 2023: Please complete and submit your tuition waiver  no later than Monday, May 15 to ensure the waiver will be noted on your account by the May 17 deadline.

If you anticipate registering on or after Monday, May 15, please submit your tuition waiver the day before your registration so your account can be notated in time to meet the same day deadline.

Radiography students win awards at state conference

LLCC Radiography students sitting at round conference tables, spelling out LLCC with their arms.Seven second-year LLCC Student Radiography Association members attended the 88th Illinois State Society of Radiologic Technology (ISSRT) Annual Conference in Bloomington, April 12-14.

Four LLCC Radiography students, each holding a fourth place ribbonHighlights included a fourth place finish by LLCC’s scholar bowl team! Members of the team are Josie Dame, Haley Prince, Madelyn Schaadt and Lexi Shull.

Madelyn Schaadt received a third place medal and a $75 check for her electronic poster on non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Mariah Miller received two scholarships totaling $1300 from the ISSRT.

Ada Range tree dedication today

Today at 3:15 p.m. a there will be a short and informal dedication ceremony at the tree that has been planted in Adrienne (Ada) Range’s honor. Ada is a former LLCC Natural and Agricultural Sciences faculty member who taught Anatomy and Physiology and who passed away in May 2022. The tree is located in front of the Millennium Center. All are invited to attend to honor Ada and share stories and memories. Anyone who has an “Ada’s Army” T-shirt is encouraged to wear it today.  Her family will also be present.

Canvas Open Lab today, 1-2 p.m.

LLCC Academic Innovation and eLearning is hosting a Canvas Open Lab today, May 3, 1-2 p.m. both in-person in SO119 and virtually via Zoom (attend open lab via Zoom). Ask the AIeL team your Canvas questions and for any additional help with Canvas you may need.

LLCC offering new Teen Learning and Culinary Labs

LLCC Community Education will be offering Teen Learning and Culinary Labs, new summer day-camp experiences for students ages 13-16, at its Springfield campus.

Teen Learning Labs provide three-hour, multi-day, hands-on experiences for students to explore career fields, discover new talents and expand their knowledge under the guidance of experienced educators. Students can explore workforce careers in HVAC, welding, auto, aviation, construction, health care and culinary.

Labs being offered include: Introduction to Trades – June 19-22, 1-4 p.m.; Girls in Metal – June 26-29, 1-4 p.m.; Construction Careers – June 26-29, 1-4 p.m.; Health Care Careers – June 26-29, 1-4 p.m.; Hard Hats and Hammers for Girls – July 10-13, 1-4 p.m.; and Bake It Lab! – July 24-27, 1-4 p.m.

LLCC Community Education is offering summer College for Kids for students who have completed grades 1-8, Monday through Thursday, June 12-29. Students may register for one or more of the three weeks. Culinary Camps for students who have completed grades 5-8 and specialty camps are also available in June and July.

Nursing club fundraiser held last week

The Nursing Skills Lab was converted to an art studio for the evening! Guests feasted on a Twyford’s BBQ dinner in the Great Hall. After dinner, they entered the skills lab for the painting experience. Guests were led through a guided painting and self-care wellness lesson. The experience included relaxed breathing, guided imagery, self-hug and group laughing exercises that encouraged guests to include their emotions within the painting by using various colors, brush strokes and power word statements.

Leading up to the event, the student club members reached out to several local area businesses to seek donations of services and products to offer as a silent auction items. In the end the club received donations from 17 locally owned businesses to create a total of 20 baskets for silent auction.

The club wishes to thank and acknowledge HSHS: Hospital Sisters Hospital Systems and Memorial Health Systems for their generous support of the catering from Twyford’s BBQ as well as the following sponsors for their generous support of the silent auction: Balance Yoga, Inner Health Spa, TC Nail Salon, BJ Grand Salon, Pink & White Nails, Heart in Hand Massage Therapy, Sweet Caroline, Moxie Massage, Smoothie King, Sports Clips, Uppercuts Barber Shop, Springfield Wellness Center, YMCA, Massage Luxe, Clark and Co. Annual open enrollment process for benefit options now available

The annual open enrollment process for all benefit options is open through Thursday, June 8. Please review the Benefit Guide emailed by HR yesterday, May 1, that provides an overview of provided benefits, including premium information, for the plan year beginning July 1, 2023.

Open enrollment offers the opportunity to add, drop or change your benefits and/or dependent coverage. It is important that all benefit-eligible employees complete the open enrollment process to ensure that you have the coverage you need for FY2024. If you decline health insurance or wish to contribute to a flexible spending account, it is required that you complete the open enrollment process. Flexible spending enrollments will not rollover into the new plan year.

To access the open enrollment portal, click on the PlanSource-Benefits Enrollment Platform on the HR Portal page. If you need assistance with open enrollment, HR will be scheduling open labs to help. Watch for open lab dates/times in LincIn. You may also schedule a one-on-one meeting for assistance.
