Institutional Improvement Day–Tuesday, Nov. 4; 9am-3pm

This year, LLCC is hosting a Strategy Forum on Institutional Improvement Day Tuesday, Nov. 4 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Cass Gymnasium. The day’s activities were planned by staff associated with the Higher Learning Commission. The Commission will share the day’s agenda at the beginning of the forum on Tuesday morning. The welcome and general overview will begin promptly at 9 a.m. It is advisable that you plan to arrive by 8:30 a.m.

Employees should bring a pencil or pen; the Commission and the LLCC AQIP Steering Team will provide everything else needed for participation. Please leave tablets and/or laptops at home or in your office. Neither is needed for the planned activities. Coffee and other beverages will be available in the morning. Lunch will be served at noon.

Winners of Employee Campaign through United Way gift baskets

Congratulations to these winners of gift baskets in the Employee Campaign through United Way: Barbara Eades, Darlene Krone, Mark Roehrs and Wendy Howerter. Thank you to all who participated in the campaign, which raised $16,761 to assist community members in need through various social service agencies and charitable organizations.

Jennifer Ramm, professor of chemistry, along with a mad scientist, a werewolf and other costumed students were interviewed by the SJ-R during the second annual Haunted Lab presented by the LLCC Chemistry and Environmental Clubs.

A photo of the Haunted Lab made the front page of the State Journal-Register Oct. 29. Eighteen Chemistry Club students were involved in the event and more than 100 children attended. See a photo album of the event HERE.

Employee campaign through United Way exceeds last year

Thank you to the LLCC community for your generosity to the Employee Campaign through United Way. With the help of our 68 donors, we raised $16,761.08 to assist those in need in our community, an increase of $1,579 from the previous year. We have one final gift basket to award and will announce that winner soon!

English Professor John Paul Jaramillo has been invited by the Prairie Art Alliance Gallery to read from his new book, The House of Order, on Nov. 20. The program runs from 5 to 7 p.m. in the H.D. Smith Gallery in the Hoogland Center for the Arts, 420 So. 6th Street, Springfield.

Open registration begins Wednesday; wear your LLCC attire

Open registration begins Wednesday for spring 2015 classes. In honor of this event, Student Services staff will greet students in the A. Lincoln Commons from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. dressed in LLCC attire. Interested students can get assistance completing the registration process in the area outside the Student Services hallway.

Student Services staff invites other members of the college community to wear LLCC attire Wednesday to help them “kick off” spring 2015 registration and to encourage students to register early!

LLCC forms Response Team to assist Benedictine students

LLCC has formed a Response Team made up of academic, financial aid and student success advisors to assist students from Benedictine University of Springfield who may wish to transfer to LLCC.

Following a meeting today with Benedictine officials, LLCC announced that it will be represented at a Transfer Fair at Benedictine on Tuesday, Nov. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Then, from 3-7 p.m., the LLCC Response Team will conduct a program at Benedictine outlining specific information for transfer students and parents, and providing an opportunity to meet individually with LLCC team members to assess transcripts, financial aid and individual course and credit transfers.

“We want to assist Benedictine students in any way we can to provide a seamless transfer to LLCC so that they can continue their academic programs,” said Dr. Charlotte Warren, LLCC president.

She added that the LLCC Board of Trustees is planning a special meeting to discuss other ways LLCC can support Benedictine students and families during this time of transition.
