SGC September Meeting Minutes

The Shared Governance Council met Sept. 17 and discussed establishing a standard meeting time for the Council and seven teams*. Institutional Research will prepare a report on class scheduling to determine best options. Four positions will be up for reelection at the end of the fall semester: administrative-Scott Stallman (current chair); faculty-Ryan Roberts (current vice-chair); professional-Bobbi Dunn and classified-Darlene Krone. Also, the Council made suggestions for informational videos being prepared for the Shared Governance website.

Our sympathy to Dr. Judy Jozaitis

Siegfried Patra, father of Dr. Judy Jozaitis, vice president, Workforce Development and Community Education, passed away Monday, Sept. 23. Visitation will be on Thursday, Sept. 26 from 3–9 p.m. at Lack and Sons Funeral Home, 9236 South Roberts Road, Hickory Hills, IL 60457. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27 at the funeral home.

Recital Series kicks off Sunday with performance by Russel Brazzel

Russel BrazzelClassical guitarist Russel Brazzel will open the Lincoln Land Community College Recital Series on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 22.  The public is invited, free of charge, to this and all recitals in the series. The Sunday afternoon recitals begin at 4 p.m. and are held in the Trutter Center on the LLCC Springfield campus.

Russel Brazzel is co-founder and music director of the Springfield Classical Guitar Society, which has just completed its 15th season of concerts. In July, Mr. Brazzel performed with violinist Kamen Petkov in Bulgaria as part of the International Chamber Music Festival 2013.  For more information and the full Recital Series Schedule, click HERE.

It’s National Surgical Technologists Week!

The Surgical Technology students celebrated National Surgical Technologists Week “Excellence With an Edge” this week. On Tuesday students participated in a potluck and Program Director Janice Lovekamp gave students pins and bags to celebrate.

Karen Sanders, executive director, LLCC Foundation, was interviewed on Sports Radio 1450 Sept. 18 regarding the Grow Beyond endowment campaign.

Jay Kitterman, director, Culinary Institute, was invited to do brief interviews on WNNS radio Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday about upcoming non-credit offerings including classes and dinners. A full list of offerings can be found HERE.

Chef John Kidd, LLCC adjunct culinary instructor, demonstrated Pan-Roasted Salmon with Orzo “Mac and Cheese” and Oven-Dried Cherry Tomatoes on the Sept. 16 WICS Midday cooking segment.

Samuel Brady, Environmental Club president, was interviewed Sept. 17 for a WICS story on the club’s electronics recycling drive.

Former ADN faculty passes away

Former Associate Degree Nursing faculty Jean Fukimo McAuliffe passed away at her home in Narragansett, Rhode Island on July 12, 2013. Our belated sympathy to her family and friends.
