Open enrollment for various insurance coverage ends today

Open enrollment for voluntary life, long-term disability, critical illness/cancer, and accident insurance coverage ends at the close of business TODAY.

Long-Term Disability – we currently have a large number of employees who currently take the long-term disability insurance, but have yet to re-elect their coverage for calendar year 2015. If we do not receive an enrollment form indicating your desire to continue this benefit, your coverage will be dropped effective January 1, 2015. Premiums go up every year due to increased salaries and/or changing age bands. Your annual re-enrollment in this benefit is your consent to the coverage at the new, increased premium amount.

Please contact the Human Resources office if you have any questions or would like to verify receipt of your enrollment forms.

Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week activities

Student United Way is sponsoring the following activities next week for HHAW Wish ListHunger and Homelessness Awareness Week.

Monday, Nov. 17 (10 a.m.-1 p.m.): A photo backdrop will be set up so stop by and get your picture taken and find out more about Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week!

Wednesday, Nov. 19 & Thurs. Nov. 20 (10 a.m.-1 p.m.): Free treats (provided by the Epicurean Club) will be given out in exchange for donations. Limit of two per person. Other baked goods will also be for sale to raise money to help fight hunger and homelessness in Springfield.

Ron Riggle, athletic director and baseball coach, was featured in a WICS story on signings of three baseball players to four-year universities.

Traffic being directed and re-routed on campus Saturday

Please note the LLCC entrance, circle drive and bus stop traffic will be directed and re-routed during the Jingle Bell Run/Walk Saturday morning. Activities for this large event will be held at various locations on campus. Below is the schedule of events:

Forum being held TODAY about First-Year Experience course

Are you interested in participating in a college-wide initiative? Chris Barry is facilitating several discussions about developing a First-Year Experience course at LLCC. The second discussion will take place TODAY from 9-10 a.m. in Menard Hall, room 1177 . This is a great opportunity to provide your insight on what a course designed for all new students at LLCC should seek to accomplish. Closing reception for “Amor Discendi” Friday

A closing reception for “Amor Discendi,” will be held this Friday, Nov. 14 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. outside the Murray Gallery, Menard Hall. The event is open to the community. Artists Trish Duknoski and Suzanne Traylor will be available for questions about their artwork. Light refreshments will be served.

Student Life events next week

Monday, Nov. 17: Native Pride Dancers will perform in the A. Lincoln Commons from noon-1:30 p.m. This is a high-energy show featuring an innovative blend of modern and traditional Native American dance styles. Performers will wear vivid assortments of brightly-colored ribbons, feathers and beads all which honor our nation’s’ elders. This event is sponsored by the Logger Activities Board.

Wednesday, Nov. 19: A special multimedia presentation, “The Reunited States of America,” will take place from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Trutter Center. This dramatic presentation by Wes Rediger, Ed.D., traces America’s struggle for liberty and equality through the Revolution, Civil War and the Civil Rights Movement. The performance includes inspiring stories of real people with moving portions of America’s founding documents and great speeches, plus 100 powerful original photographs. The presentation is sponsored by the Logger Activities Board.

Thursday, Nov. 20: Sexual assault presentation is being held from noon-1 p.m. in the R. H. Stephens Room, Menard Hall. Margaret Oltman from the Prairie Center Against Sexual Assault will address: what sexual assault/sexual harassment is, what to do if it happens and how we stop it. This event is sponsored by the Logger Activities Board.
