Ag Career Expo 2017Bill Harmon, professor of agronomy, was interviewed by WICS on Nov. 9 regarding the third annual Agriculture Career Expo being held on campus. High school students learned about the many job opportunities available in ag. They toured campus ag facilities, met with faculty and students, and networked with representatives from various ag-related businesses. See photos from the event on LLCC’s Facebook page!

Dr. Chris McDonald to present at Great War Encampment tomorrow

The Illinois State Military Museum will host a Great War Encampment tomorrow to tell the story of the First World War. LLCC is a co-sponsor of the event at which Dr. Chris McDonald, professor of political science, will speak at 11 a.m. on “Infantry Rifles of the Great War” and 3 p.m. on the “33rd Division at War, July-November 1918.” The museum is located at 1301 N. MacArthur in Springfield.

Student Radiographer Association selling popcorn

The LLCC Student Radiographer Association (SRA) is selling Double Good popcorn to help raise funds for an upcoming student conference. The U.S. flag and the state flag are being flown at half-staff from sunrise today to sunset on Sat., Nov., 11, 2017 in honor of Rockford Police Officer Jaimie Cox.

LLCC Ag Career Expo today

Please join us in welcoming high school students interested in agriculture careers to the LLCC campus today for the Ag Career Expo. The event will be held in the Trutter Center with two sessions: morning (9:30-11:30 a.m.) and afternoon (noon-2 p.m.).

Students will learn about LLCC’s agriculture program options and how they can get started; participate in mini-lessons in agronomy, ag mechanics, animal science and horticulture; and meet with LLCC’s ag faculty and students as well as representatives from various ag-related businesses.

Event sponsors include Farm Credit Illinois, Illinois Pork Producers Association, Brandt, Sloan Implement Company, Jenner Ag, First National Bank of Litchfield, M & M Service Company, Agri-Search, GROWMARK, Pioneer, Springfield Pepsi, Canteen Vending and Subway-Frito Lay.

Inspired exhibitThe current exhibit, “Inspired,” features the work of LLCC faculty and staff created for the On My Own Time art program.  Thirteen entries received first place ribbons, and four of those went on to earn first place awards in the recent citywide exhibit.

The Trutter Museum’s formal hours are Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. or by calling 786-2217. Cookie certificates may be redeemed any Tuesday or Thursday between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. through Nov. 16.

Veterans Day Ceremony Nov. 10

LLCC’s 22nd annual Veterans Day Ceremony will be held tomorrow, Nov. 10 with a reception at 1 p.m. and ceremony at 1:30 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons. American Legion Post 759 Color Guard will present the colors, and LLCC student Lance Corporal Bobby Herpel, U.S. Marine Corps, will sing the national anthem and “God Bless the USA.” The program also includes Dennis Shackelford, chair, LLCC Board of Trustees, serving as master of ceremonies; LLCC student Corporal Nate Mayfield, U.S. Army, providing remarks; and Herpel playing “Taps.” The ceremony is sponsored by LLCC Student Life and honors all veterans including LLCC faculty, staff and students who served in the armed forces.
