Be sure to watch PBS’ Illinois Stories program on the bird banding research project at LLCC! It will air Thursday, April 19 at 6:30 p.m.; Sunday, April 22 at 4:30 p.m.; and Tuesday, April 24 at 6:30 p.m. on WSEC, WQEC and WMEC.

The LLCC Foundation’s 12th Annual Gala was featured in the State Journal-Register’s A La Carte section. The event, themed “A Secret Garden,” will take place Saturday, May 5 and feature a gourmet dinner prepared and served by the college’s culinary arts students and instructors. Proceeds benefit student learning at LLCC.

Nancy Sweet, director, culinary programs and operations, has the charming distinction of being added to the Bloomington Pantagraph’s “Best Name Club” for her name being so well-suited to her role in managing food programs, such as baking and pastries, at LLCC. How sweet!

Presentation on clinical laboratory science

Do you know of a student interested in clinical laboratory science? Encourage them to attend a presentation on the field of clinical laboratory science (CLS) on Monday, April 16 from 2:30-3 p.m. in S2216. Students in the CLS program at UIS will be discussing the different fields in clinical laboratory science, career opportunities and how to earn a degree in CLS. All students and staff are invited. Snacks will be provided!

Film showing and discussion of “Your Name” April 19

The LLCC Arts and Humanities Department will hold a showing and discussion of the film “Your Name” (Kimi No Na Wa) on Thursday, April 19, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Trutter Center.

“Your Name” (2016) is an animated film directed by Makoto Shinkai. It has become one of the highest grossing films ever in Japan and is considered a masterpiece about time, the thread of fate and the hearts of two young souls. High schoolers Mitsuha and Taki are complete strangers living separate lives. One night they unexpectedly switch places, each waking up in the other’s body. This strange occurrence continues to happen randomly, and Mitsuha and Taki must adjust their lives around each other. They build a connection and communicate by leaving notes, messages and, most importantly, an imprint.

Prior to the film showing, the Trutter Museum will have culturally relevant artifacts from the Trutter collection on display in the reception area. Film series attendees are encouraged to come early to enjoy the art and history.

Through a Different LensThe event is the third and final installment in LLCC’s spring film and discussion series entitled “Through a Different Lens: Cultural Perspectives through Film,” which is hosted by Ashley Green and Paul Van Heuklom, LLCC professors of English, and Joseph Hoff, LLCC professor of Spanish. There is no charge to attend.

PRM short video wins national award

AVA platinum statuettePRM’s “The School for the Job” :45 video recently received the highest level AVA (Audio-Visual Arts) Digital Award — a platinum for “Short form web video under three minutes.” Each entry is evaluated and scored by judges from AMCP, the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals, the industry’s preeminent third-party evaluator of creative work.

Mark Hardiman, professor of theatre, and LLCC are mentioned in this SJ-R story April 12 regarding the Springfield Theatre Centre’s upcoming production of “Robin Hood.” Mark taught stage combat to the actors in the LLCC theatre space. “The cast also had to work together to act out extensive combat scenes. They trained for weeks at Lincoln Land Community College with stage combat choreographer Mark Hardiman to perfect the numerous fight sequences, filled with hefty weapons and precise timing.”

Michelle Burger, career development professional, was featured in a WICS News Channel 20 story about today’s Teen Summer Job Fair. Michelle provided a teen employment workshop for the Boys and Girls Club called Jobs 101, which helps prepare teens for the job fair.

New edition of FORWARD is here!
