LLCC Dance Club: Express Your Seoul bake sale Monday

Dance into spring with the LLCC Dance Club: Express Your Seoul bake sale on Monday, April 23 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons! Some of the treats the club will be selling are puppy chow, chocolate dipped pretzels, cake pops, rice krispies, brownies, cookies and more. All items are under $2.

Annual Student Art Show awards reception, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

LLCC’s James S. Murray Gallery is featuring the Annual Student Art Show April 16-May 10. The artists, their families and the public are invited attend the awards reception today, April 19 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. At the reception, award winners will be announced in several categories. LLCC’s digital media and app design program will also be showcasing LLCC student games from game design classes.

Sarah Smelser, MFA, printmaking professor at Illinois State University and co-founder of Manneken Press, served as juror for the show. Her work has appeared in such collections as the Readers’ Digest Association, the New York Public Library, the Library of Congress, the Jane Vorhees Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers University, the Spencer Museum at University of Kansas, Hallmark Corporate Collection and the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts.

 

Showing of “Your Name” today at 6 p.m.

The LLCC Arts and Humanities Department invites you to join them for a showing and discussion of the film “Your Name” (Kimi No Na Wa) today, April 19, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Trutter Center.

“Your Name” (2016) is an animated film directed by Makoto Shinkai. It has become one of the highest grossing films ever in Japan and is considered a masterpiece about time, the thread of fate and the hearts of two young souls. High schoolers Mitsuha and Taki are complete strangers living separate lives. One night they unexpectedly switch places, each waking up in the other’s body. This strange occurrence continues to happen randomly, and Mitsuha and Taki must adjust their lives around each other. They build a connection and communicate by leaving notes, messages and, most importantly, an imprint.

Prior to the film showing, the Trutter Museum will have culturally relevant artifacts from the Trutter collection on display in the reception area. Film series attendees are encouraged to come early to enjoy the art and history.

Through a Different LensThe event is the third and final installment in this semester’s film and discussion series entitled “Through a Different Lens: Cultural Perspectives through Film,” which is hosted by Ashley Green and Paul Van Heuklom, LLCC professors of English, and Joseph Hoff, LLCC professor of Spanish. There is no charge to attend.

LLCC’s bird banding research project on Illinois Stories

Tuesday, April 24

Take a Stand Tuesday, all day, A. Lincoln Commons

Take a Stand Tuesday is an opportunity for your office or you as an individual to stand with the LLCC community in our efforts to increase awareness of sexual assault while informing our community about everyday actions that we can take to prevent sexual violence and support survivors. Symbolic of the LLCC community’s refusal to be passive bystanders of sexual assault, at least one person will be “taking a stand” in A. Lincoln Commons from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24, 2018. You are invited to choose an available half-hour time frame that works for you or your group and sign up using this link.

Wednesday, April 25

Denim Day, all day, A. Lincoln Commons

In correlation with National Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the LLCC Feminist Activist Coalition and SAVE Taskforce will be hosting Denim Day Wednesday, April 25. For this awareness campaign and fundraiser, faculty and staff are encouraged to participate by wearing denim on April 25 and turning in a minimum $5 donation to LLCC Student Life. All proceeds will benefit the Prairie Center Against Sexual Assault. The fundraiser also connects with Denim Day 2018, an annual campaign that focuses on protesting destructive attitudes and misconceptions about sexual assault. Learn more about the background of this campaign.

Thursday, April 26

Walk a Mile Runway Show, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., A. Lincoln Commons

Get involved as pledges are taken, challenge stereotypes that perpetuate sexual violence, and learn more about the topic. This event features both an educational area and a runway show that challenges all students (regardless of gender identity) to put on some heels and walk the runway! Cupcakes made by Lindee Hall will be available for purchase, with proceeds benefiting the Prairie Center Against Sexual Assault.

Friday, April 27

LLCC March to Join Take Back the Night, 7:15 p.m.

Meet outside of Millennium (near the La Terra sculpture) to join SAVE Taskforce as they march over to the UIS campus and join Take Back the Night March and Rally, which will include LLCC student speakers.

Tickets available for Farmer’s Share Lunch, April 27

The LLCC Agriculture Club is hosting its Seventh Annual Farmer’s Share Lunch on Friday, April 27, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Trutter Center. The club is selling tickets for the meal that will include a boneless pork chop sandwich, roasted corn, potato salad, fruit, cookies, and tea or lemonade for $1. The cost represents the portion of a meal’s cost that actually goes back to the farmers who grew the food. The rest of the cost is for processing, marketing, transportation, etc. Only 125 tickets are available, and they may be purchased from any LLCC Ag Club member or by contacting club advisor Bill Harmon at 786-2573 or bill.harmon@llcc.edu.

During the event, guests will also be able to test their agriculture knowledge with trivia questions from LLCC’s state champion College Bowl Team. The event is open to anyone in the campus community as an educational activity for the club.
