LLCC hosted NRAEF meeting on apprenticeships yesterday
LLCC hosted a National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF) apprenticeship accelerator meeting yesterday, Sept. 24, in Bistro Verde to introduce the nation’s first restaurant management apprenticeship program to interested restaurant employers in the Springfield area. Caroline Eckert, manager of program development, NRAEF, spoke to 24 individuals in attendance who learned about the employer-driven training program.
The NRAEF conducts apprenticeship accelerator meetings across the country to explain how the program works and demonstrate how it can address restaurant industry challenges to find and retain top talent.
In 2016, the NRAEF and the American Hotel & Lodging Association received a $1.8 million contract from the U.S. Department of Labor to develop the first-ever federally registered hospitality sector apprenticeship program. The program places individuals in paid apprenticeships focused on management-level positions across the hospitality and food service industries, translating into increased skills, higher wages, recognized credentials and a career advancement plan.
“All Lit Up” Arts and Humanities Festival
LLCC’s “All Lit Up” Arts and Humanities Festival continues today with a film showing and discussion of “Cinema Paradiso”with music by Jane Hartman at 5 p.m. in Menard Hall, Room 2250. Professors Joe Hoff and Deborah Brothers are facilitators.
With the theme of “Arts bringing light into the darkness,” the festival will feature a number of events from Sept. 24-28 in conjunction with Banned Books Week, a national observance celebrating the freedom to read. All events are free and open to the public. LLCC students, staff, faculty and administrators are invited and encouraged to participate or attend. Read more about the week’s events.
Quiznos hosting grand opening today!
Quiznos will host a grand opening celebration today, with all 8” subs at a special price of $5. Quiznos swag bags will be distributed to the first 100 guests. Today’s event kicks off a string of celebrations for the rest of the week:

Notice regarding end-of-month deposits
The deadline to submit deposits to the LLCC Finance Department is Thursday, Sept. 27, before noon. Please hand the deposit to Elyse Calhoun, Nichole Coffey or Robin Ackman as monies should not be left unattended.
