Employee or dependent tuition waiver deadline tomorrow

To all full-time employees who plan on using the employee tuition waiver for themselves or their qualified dependents for fall 2019 LLCC classes:

The tuition due date has been scheduled for Wednesday, July 10. Please have your completed employee waiver form to LLCC Human Resources no later than July 10 to ensure classes will not be dropped.

If you anticipate registering on or after Wednesday, July 10, please submit your completed employee waiver form to LLCC Human Resources either before or the day of your registration to prevent being dropped from course(s).

Graduation applications for summer 2019 are due July 15

Please remind students that now is the time to turn in their graduation applications for summer 2019. The deadline to apply for summer 2019 is July 15. Graduation is not automatic!

They can apply for graduation on WebAdvisor or Logger Central, download the graduation application or pick up a copy in LLCC Student Records in Menard Hall on the Springfield campus and at other LLCC locations.

Sign up for a summer Responsible Employee training

Are you a Responsible Employee? Do you want more information about how to best respond to disclosures of sexual harassment, sexual violence, dating/domestic violence or stalking? Sign up now for a summer Responsible Employee training session! Sessions will be offered on July 16 from 3-4 p.m. and August 8 from 10-11 a.m.! SURS counselors on campus Aug. 28. Schedule an appointment today!

SURS counselors will be on campus this fall to conduct one-on-one counseling appointments with employees who are within four years of retirement eligibility and have not met with SURS in the past 12 months. Please refer to the attachment for instructions on how to enroll for a one-on-one appointment. Please remember appointments are on a first come, first serve basis and are very limited.

Transportation and Industrial Expo July 16

Transportation and Industrial Expo. Interested in a hands-on career? July 16, 6-8 p.m.If you know anyone interested in a hands-on career, encourage them to attend LLCC’s Transportation and Industrial Expo on Tuesday, July 16 from 6-8 p.m. Send an invite or share the event link on Facebook!

Prospective students are invited to learn about the many LLCC degree and certificate opportunities that can launch careers in the transportation and industrial fields. The free event will be held in the Workforce Careers Center. Registration is available at www.llcc.edu/expo or by calling 217-786-2577. Attendees can visit various state-of-the-art labs with hands-on activities, talk with program instructors and industry experts, and take first steps in the enrollment process.

College for Kids in July

The traditional sessions of College for Kids start today, July 8! It is the first of three unique week-long enrichment programs occurring July 8-11, July 15-18 and July 22-25 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Students who have completed grades K-8 will be on campus taking courses such as LEGO Explorers, Space Is the Place, Soaring With the Birds, Dragon Genetics, Around the World, Backyard Ballistics and Rocketry!

Spring bird banding results issued

The final report for the spring 2019 bird banding season (our 14th banding season at LLCC!) contains these highlights:

  • We banded 1,421 birds of 83 species over 49 mornings (averages out to 29 birds per day).
  • In addition, we had 138 returns (captures of birds banded in an earlier season).
  • The five most abundantly captured/banded species this spring were: Dark-eyed Junco, Common Yellowthroat, Gray Catbird, Swamp Sparrow and Northern Cardinal.
  • We captured/banded two new species for the station this spring: Barn Swallow and Connecticut Warbler.
  • Our cumulative number for 14 seasons stands at 23,586 birds banded of 125 species.
  • More than 250 LLCC students and community members visited the bird banding station this spring.

The fall 2019 season is scheduled to begin Aug. 19. You are always welcome to visit as your time allows!

Tammy Kuhn-Schnell named chair of the CARLI Board of Directors

Tammy Kuhn-Schnell, dean, library, has been named chair of the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI) Board of Directors for 2019-2020. CARLI is an organization of 131 Illinois libraries serving public and private colleges, universities and research institutions. The CARLI libraries work cooperatively to share resources and services, including I-Share, the integrated library catalog.
