Congratulations to the Spring 2025 IDI Grant Recipients!

The Innovation in Diversity and Inclusion Grant Project Team is thrilled to announce that we received a record number of applications for this award cycle. In fact, the number is up 400% from last year! Although we would have loved to fund everything, we did have to make some decisions. The proposals (listed with point of contact) that will be fully or partially funded are:

First-time recipients

  • A&P Open Access Packets (Jennifer O’Malley) – Creating an open educational resource (OER) to enhance the A&P laboratory experience and reduce resource disparities
  • FACE Partnership Showcase (Brianna VanMeter) – An outreach initiative to bring Family and Community Education (FACE) Coordinators in District 186 to LLCC to increase awareness of our resources and enhance collaboration
  • Jacksonville Lunch & Learns (Keri Mason) – Discussion events during Deaf History Month and Black History Month to foster cultural awareness and respect for lived experiences
  • LincUp Sensory Stress Breaks (Kim Alexander) – Sensory materials and activities to foster social interaction and build relationships, particularly for neurodivergent students and those dealing with anxiety
  • PTK Honors in Action Stories Project (Ryan Roberts) – Vlogging kits for conducting interviews, starting with documenting stories in Springfield about lived experiences with race and representation

Continued support

  • BSU Fest (Kimberly Williams-Wilson) – LLCC Black Student Union hosts students from District 186 high schools for an educational experience about college life and Black culture at LLCC to encourage enrollment in a supportive community. They have received positive feedback and hope to build a series of events throughout the spring.
  • Fit for Life (Yvonne Cosentino) – The OTA program has partnered with the Boys & Girls Club on a holistic approach to education, wellness, and community engagement. They hope to expand the program to include another not-for-profit partner.

If these examples spark any ideas, we hope you will watch for the application to open again next fall. Thanks to everyone who submitted this year. It is clear we have a community that believes in this grant’s goals!

We look forward to celebrating the progress of these projects and highlighting them more in-depth throughout the spring!

A Glimpse into 2025 LLCC Construction projects

As the spring semester begins, I wanted to update the college community on some of the ongoing and upcoming construction projects you can expect to see around the Springfield campus and Outreach Centers.

  • Renovation of the science lab in the Litchfield Admin Building will begin in the next few weeks.
  • Work continues for the EDA Grant funded project to construct a new storage building behind the Workforce Careers Center for ag, diesel, EMS and truck driver training and to renovate Logan Hall for improvements to the OTA and EMS programs. We expect these project to be complete in early summer 2025.
  • Work continues on the renovation of Sangamon South to become the new construction training lab. We expect this project to be complete in early summer 2025 for use starting in fall 2025.
  • We have user-group meetings scheduled to discuss the next phased plan for major renovations at 1st and 2nd Floor of the Millennium Center, continued 1st Floor Menard Hall renovations, Lower-Level Menard Hall renovations and other (smaller) scope at the Trutter Center, Sangamon Hall and work at the Logger Lair. Design will start immediately with the goal to start construction in the Millennium Center in fall 2025. The entirety of this phased construction will continue through 2028.
  • As part of an IGEN grant, we will be installing ground-mounted solar panels south of the Child Development Center. We anticipate this work to be completed before the end of the spring 2025 semester.
  • We will start a project later this year to expand the signage and wayfinding to the rest of the buildings on the Springfield Campus.
  • We have several upcoming Protection, Health and Safety projects slated for next FY including continued exterior door upgrades at the Springfield Campus, lab eyewash updates in Sangamon Hall, a major fire alarm upgrade to all campuses, replacement of the roof at Logan Hall and continued exterior lighting upgrades at the Springfield Campus.
  • Jacksonville, Litchfield and Taylorville campuses will have upcoming projects including flooring, painting, exterior window/door, active learning and other miscellaneous scope that will begin this spring.

We are excited to have another busy spring/summer in front of us! As always, a huge thanks to all of the departments and teams that we have worked with to make all of these happen, your help is greatly appreciated!

Changes to SMTD routes Jan. 6

The Springfield Mass Transit District has announced the following changes that may impact LLCC students.

The day service and night service routes currently servicing LLCC — Route 11 and Route 905 — will end at the UIS PAC building. Trips to LLCC will require riders to transfer at the UIS PAC from either route to the new 501 route to complete their trip. Time checks at the UIS PAC for all three routes have been aligned to make these transfers possible. Rides from one college to another will not require a fare to be paid. You can view more information on SMTD online.
