LEAGUE drawing winners

Congratulations to Cynthia Smock and Kirk Yenerall! Each won $150 in the LEAGUE drawing. LEAGUE, which is an acronym for Leaders Establishing Gifts Underwriting Education, is the college’s annual faculty and staff giving campaign. Those who made a donation to LEAGUE were entered into the drawing. LEAGUE cash prizes were made possible by members of the LLCC Cabinet.

Welcome Josh Collins

Josh CollinsJosh Collins has joined LLCC as assistant vice president of business relations. He began his new duties Aug. 3.

Collins previously served as interim CEO of the Springfield Sangamon Growth Alliance and the director of business and community development at the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce. He is a certified economic developer through the International Economic Development Council.

“We are so pleased that Josh Collins has joined LLCC. He has extensive experience with businesses in the community and has been involved with the college’s program advisory committees for years,” said Karen Sanders, vice president of advancement and LLCC Foundation executive director. “With his leadership, we look forward to building and strengthening our business and industry partnerships.”

Collins earned a bachelor’s degree in political studies from University of Illinois Springfield.

Welcome Iván Pagán

Iván PagánIván Pagán joined LLCC on July 1 as director, student success. He has over 30 years of experience in higher education and has directed a tutoring center, advising center, center for student success and learning center. Iván earned master’s degrees in accounting and educational psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and in teaching English as a second language from the Inter American University of Puerto Rico. Kevin Lust, director, Illinois Small Business Development Center at LLCC, was  recently quoted by NPR Illinois in an article about the Paycheck Protection Program. He will also be presenting at 217 Black Business Month Virtual Roundtables on Aug. 5, 12 and 19, discussing resources available to entrepreneurs at various stages of the development of their businesses. Kathy Dehen, Academy of Lifelong Learning president, wrote the essay “Make a friend or two and learn something new” for the latest edition of Senior News.

Equity-Conscious Practices. Equity Conscious Community College Pathways. This week’s episode focuses on equity-conscious leaders and cultural proficiency — leading for change. Hear about how important it is for leaders in education to include these practices within their overall framework. Also learn about “equity traps,” which are patterns of thinking and behaviors that prevent educators from being successful with all students.

The Campus Climate Team has been sharing one video a week from OCCRL’s Exploring and Engaging Equity Video Vignette Series — a valuable, free and conveniently accessible professional development resource on equity. The videos show topics of critical importance that aim to foster student success and equitable outcomes. They explore what equity is and reveal strategies to engage in equity-focused action.

Tisha Miller, enrollment coordinator, LLCC-Taylorville and LLCC-Litchfield, was interviewed on the WTIM morning talkshow on July 30. She encouraged students to begin the enrollment process, discussed the fall course types and promoted the upcoming virtual information sessions for LLCC programs in the culinary, hospitality, transportation and industrial fields.
