Updated Return to Campus Guidelines

With the most recent guideline changes in regards to mask wearing implemented by the CDC and with the Executive Order issued this week by Governor Pritzker, the Campus Guidelines have been amended in the following manner:

  • Face coverings and social distancing requirements are considered optional for fully vaccinated individuals;
  • If not fully vaccinated, face coverings remain required as do adhering to social distancing guidelines (whenever possible);

Please note that the above guideline changes DO NOT apply to employees of the LLCC Child Development Center. As outlined in the Executive Order, those staff should continue mask wearing and social distancing regardless of vaccination status while in the child care setting.

Signage throughout campus will be updated to reflect these guideline updates.

For more information and the full guidelines, please refer to yesterday’s email from Bryan Gleckler, vice president, administrative services.

As a reminder, Memorial Medical Center will be back on campus on June 3, 2021 for a COVID-19 vaccination clinic. To schedule an appointment please go to the follow link: https://outlook.office365.com/owa/calendar/LLCC@llcconline.onmicrosoft.com/bookings/. Also, vaccinations are now widely available through local health departments, Walgreens, CVS, Hy-Vee and many other locations throughout our communities.

Environmental scan available on IRE SharePoint site

LLCC Institutional Research and Effectiveness recently added an environmental scan to their SharePoint site. Completed in April 2021, the LLCC Environmental Scan examines trends which could affect the people who live and work in District 526, the businesses that operate in the communities we serve and the landscape of higher education. This document tells us about the environment in which we operate and should be used to inform strategic (e.g., SWOT analysis, goal setting, benchmarking) and operational (e.g., enrollment management, academic program development, community partnerships) planning. Questions can be addressed to the team at AskIRE@llcc.edu.

LLCC offers fun enrichment opportunities for children this summer

College for KidsLLCC is offering a variety of online College for Kids classes and Black Rocket Technology camps as well as in-person culinary experiences for youth this summer. Registration is now open.

“We are excited to help youth learn and thrive this summer,” said Jessica Ingold, youth programs coordinator. “Our lineup of programming offers in-person culinary classes and accommodates those who prefer real-time online experiences in addition to those who want to take control and learn on their own time.”

College for Kids’ online classes offer activities from June 29-Aug. 3 for students who have completed grades preK-12. Students may register for one or more classes each week. Each course includes instructional videos and accompanying supply kits. For those who want to share in the experience with family or friends, “Crew Kits” are also available for groups of five or 10.

Classes being offered this summer include: American Sign Language, Lightning Catcher, Simple Science at Home I and II, Watercolor Creations, Birds of a Feather, Fantastical Beasts, Mythological Egypt, Photography for All, Tune up Time!, Young Opera, Safari Time and more.

The popular virtual Black Rocket Technology camps are available during June and July with 3D Game Design with Unity, App Attack!, Code Breakers, Make Your First Video Game! and other tech-based fun for ages 8-14.

Youth in-person culinary experiences are available for students who have completed grades 4-12. Each three-hour course meets in the Workforce Careers Center on LLCC’s Springfield campus, 5250 Shepherd Rd. Classes include Design on a Cake, Let the Sushi Roll, Pizza Three Ways, Scratchin’ Chicken and Noodles, and Make’n’Take’n’Bake Lasagna Roll-Ups.

Congratulations to Kyle Cearlock

Kyle Cearlock holding Lincoln Land Community College diploma coverWe love to share our students’ success stories, and we congratulate Kyle Cearlock, an LLCC College NOW student and Taylorville High School senior, for his accomplishments!
Kyle recently graduated with an associate in science from LLCC prior to earning his high school diploma. He took college-level courses on top of his high school schoolwork, extracurriculars and sports — and did so with a 4.0 GPA!
Kyle plans to transfer to the University of Missouri and hopes more students will take advantage of concurrent enrollment opportunities to graduate from LLCC and high school around the same time.

Calling all artists! “On My Own Time” slated for fall

On My Own TimeThis fall, LLCC will once again be participating in the Springfield Area Arts Council’s On My Own Time (OMOT) program. This unique program provides LLCC faculty and staff an opportunity to display original art they have created outside the office, truly, on your own time. There will be an in-house exhibit at LLCC followed by a city-wide exhibit at the Springfield Art Association showcasing first place award-winning artwork from all participating businesses, agencies and institutions.

ARTS Springfield Area Arts CouncilFaculty and staff may enter up to three works of art each. Works previously entered in OMOT or created prior to 2020 are not eligible. The artist fee is $5 per artwork submitted. The fee assists SAAC with costs of the OMOT program. Details will be announced later this summer.

So spend time this summer using your imagination and skills to create new artwork! A detailed list of the categories, as well as the rules are attached.

Please contact Misty Hagstrom (217-786-2466misty.hagstrom@llcc.edu) with any questions.
