Beginning Blackboard

Facilitator: Gary Bach, Instructional Technology Specialist

Are you a new Blackboard user or an occasional Blackboard user in need of a refresher? Come to this session for an introduction to using the Blackboard course management system at LLCC. This session will cover the basics of getting started using Blackboard to supplement instruction, such aslogging in to the system, general navigation, tools, course development areas and the grade center.

Blackboard Open Lab

Have you ever had questions about how to accomplish something in Blackboard but couldn’t attend a previously scheduled Blackboard workshop to ask?  This monthly, drop-in open house session gives you the opportunity to get individual help with your questions.

No registration is required to attend.

This Week at LLCC

Many activities will be going on throughout the week to kick off the fall semester!

Welcome tables have been set up in A. Lincoln Commons, Millennium Center, Logan Hall and Workforce Careers Center for students to pick up maps and planners.  Volunteers also will be helping students find classes and answering questions at the tables in A. Lincoln Commons and Workforce Careers Center.

Student Life is hosting daily Welcome Week Activities in A. Lincoln Commons.  Visit their website to see the schedule.

Employees and students will be able to stop by the Police Department in Sangamon Hall anytime between 8 a.m – 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday or 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on Friday to sign up for LLCC Connect.

The Board of Trustees will meet Wednesday at 5 p.m. in the R.H. Stephens Room.  Click HERE to view the agenda, which included minutes from previous meeting.Also on Wednesday, there will a French Club bake sale in the Student Union, 7:30-11:30 a.m.

ITDE is hosting a Beginning Blackboard Workshop in Sangamon 0119, 5-6 p.m. on Wednesday and a Blackboard Open Lab in Sangamon 0119, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Thursday.  Register for these and few the entire ITDE Workshop schedule HERE.

Accounts Payable checks can be Direct Deposited

Did you know that direct deposit is available for Accounts Payable checks? You can have any reimbursement that you would normally get from Accounts Payable (post-travel reimbursements, mileage, etc.) directly deposited into your bank account. Forms are available in Accounts Payable located in the Finance Department, or on the Finance Department portal page under Accounts Payable. Condolences to Eli Miller

Our sympathy to Eli Miller, custodial supervisor, Facilities, on the passing of his father, Melvin Mohn, Thursday, Aug. 21.   Funeral arrangements are pending.

Retirement education seminars being held

SURS is offering fall Retirement Education Seminars for members enrolled in the Traditional and Portable plans.  These one-day sessions will be held from approximately 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Registration is required.  The enrollment fee is $20 per member and $10 for a non-member guest.  Lunch will be provided.  Two sessions are available for community college employees:

Tuesday, November 4 – Champaign, IL

Thursday, November 6– Naperville, IL

Topics will include:

  • Eligibility for retirement
  • Purchasing additional service credit – cost, availability, ways to purchase, how the purchase may benefit you
  • How benefits are calculated under both Money Purchase (if applicable) and General Formula
  • What happens when you pass away
  • Death benefits – who qualifies, amount payable
  • Survivor benefits – who qualifies, amount payable
  • Applying for your retirement benefit
  • What happens after you retire – preliminary estimated payment stage (PEP), taxes, automatic annual increase (AAI), returning to work after retirement
  • Benefits to having a counseling appointment within four years of retirement
