Reminder: Roof work on Menard Hall this morning

Today, beginning at 6:00 a.m., we will be completing the removal of the last of the variable frequency drives from the roofs of Menard Hall.  The first of the two “picks” using a boom truck will be from the loading dock area.  The second will be in front of the third set of doors (the ones leading to Cass) on the east side of Menard.  The operation should be completed within 2-3 hours.  We will be taking the necessary safety precautions, but your cooperation, and awareness, will be appreciated.

Bistro Verde is opening this Monday September 15 as Bistro To Go!

The student operated café will sell ready to eat soups, salads, sandwiches and assorted baked goods for take-out only.  Menu selections will vary each day based on what is being prepared by culinary and baking classes. The café will also offer coffee, tea, soda, and bottled water.  Bistro To Go will be open on Mondays from 4 – 6 p.m. and Wednesdays from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.  Due to the nature of the class and student curriculum, we will not be able to accommodate call-ahead orders or seating in the Bistro and there is a limit of 4 “orders” per person.

Student Life activities next week

Monday, Sept 15th:  Soup & Stories presentation in the R.H. Stephens room from 12-1pm: “Tower of Refuge, Inc.” The event includes a light lunch of soup and salad. Admission is free for LLCC students with student ID and $3 for nonstudents. For more information about the presentation, click HERE.

Wednesday, Sept. 17th: Name That Amendment:  Come to the A. Lincoln Commons at 11am to play trivia on the U.S. Constitution and if you finish in the top 4 you will receive an American Eagle silver coin ($28 value)! In addition, prizes will be given for each correct answer! This event sponsored by the Logger Activities Board.

Thursday, Sept. 18th: Showoff YOUR culture! Come to the A. Lincoln Commons from 11-12:30pm to help us decorate mini flags to have YOUR culture represented at our Multicultural Festival on Oct 1st! All flags will be displayed on a banner for all to see and enjoy. Snacks will be provided for all participants. Come join the fun! This event is sponsored by the Logger Activities Board.

Friday, Sept. 19th from 10am-1pm LOGGERPALOOZA 2014: Students, faculty, and staff ALL invited – Come to outside of the A. Lincoln Commons to enjoy live  entertainment by Patrick Lentz, vendor booths, and campus services.

Friday, Sept. 19th Club Information Day! Stop by the R. H. Stephens room from 9am-3pm to learn about the various clubs at LLCC and GET INVOLVED! Free Subway lunches are available to the first 250 LLCC students  with valid student id at 11:30am.

Soup & Stories Sept. 15 features speaker from Tower of Refuge, Inc.

The Student Life Office invites you to a special Soup and Stories program entitled “Tower of Refuge, Inc.” on Monday, Sept. 15. The event begins at noon in the Robert H. Stephens Room of Menard Hall.

The featured presenter for the program is Bevey Louden, co-founder and assistant director of the Tower of Refuge, Inc. in Springfield, who will share her unique experiences working in a grassroots organization whose primary purpose is to reduce the rate of recidivism through various programs and community efforts throughout the state of Illinois.

The event includes a light lunch of soup and salad. Admission is $3 for non-students.

Constitution Day program at LLCC Sept. 17

LLCC is presenting a Constitution Day program Wednesday, Sept. 17 at noon entitled “Free Speech Under Fire: Does the First Amendment Apply to Higher Education?” The presentation takes place in the Trutter Center on the Springfield campus.

Presenters for the event are Anthony DiMaggio, Ph.D., LLCC political science assistant professor, and John K. Wilson, co-editor of AcademeBlog.org and editor of Illinois Academe. The presentation includes what the scope of the first amendment is and should be, related to academia, in addition to recent issues concerning academic freedom and free speech.  Read more…

A Special Thank You from Karen Riddell

Thank you to all of my Lincoln Land family for all the e-mails, cards, calls and flowers in the loss of my mother. It really meant so much to my family and myself. She was a very special and loving person and will be missed by all that knew her.
