Sign up to help at the Welcome Week table

LLCC Public Relations and Marketing would appreciate your assistance during fall Welcome Week! PRM is looking for volunteers to assist at the welcome table in A. Lincoln Commons Aug. 21-24 during the first week of fall classes.

Help students get a great start to the semester by greeting them, answering their questions, providing directions and encouraging them to stop by the Welcome Week events hosted by LLCC Student Life! An FAQ reference sheet will be on the table along with highlighters to help in marking students’ routes to their classes.

Kick off the new school year with Convocation this Friday!

Convocation for faculty and staff will be this Friday, Aug. 18 beginning at 1 p.m. in Cass Gym with an address by President Charlotte Warren. Enjoy a social from 4-6 p.m. in the outdoor Hamilton Area with games galore, great food prepared by Chef Howard and LLCC culinary students, beverages and music from the band Myers Brant & Paoni. Let’s celebrate!

United Way “Battle of the Paddle” Sept. 14

LLCC employees are invited to participate in the United Way of Central Illinois Campaign Kickoff Event: Battle of the Paddle, Thursday, Sept. 14, 3-5 p.m. at Iles Park, 2000 S. 6th St., Springfield.

  • Start a pickleball team of 2
  • Raise a minimum of $500 per team. United Way will provide an online crowdfunding page for teams to share with family, friends, and coworkers to raise funds. Teams can also make a single donation.
  • Teams will begin competition at 3 p.m. and continue play through the Kickoff program that starts at 3:30 p.m. in an adjacent tent.
  • Community members are encouraged to cheer on their favorite teams.
  • Kickoff attendees will join the crowd before and after the program.

Walk to End Alzheimer’s® Sept. 30

This is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Team Captains Laurie Clemons, recently retired student success coach, and Leslie Johnson, AVP, student success, would love for you to participate in one or more of the following ways:

  • Join our team and walk in person on Sept. 30, 2023, at Southwind Park.
  • Join our team and participate virtually.
  • Invite family and friends to join our team.
  • Donate money to the LLCC team or to a team member’s fundraising goal.

Farewell reception for Lindee Hall Pratt today, 2-4 p.m.

Join us in wishing Lindee Hall Pratt, curriculum specialist, academic services, well in her next adventure! A farewell reception for Lindee Hall Pratt will be held today from 2-4 p.m. in the Robert H. Stephens Room. She has worked at the college for 21+ years, and we would like to honor her for her service to LLCC. Faculty and staff are invited to stop by to wish Lindee well and enjoy some refreshments.

Dr. Natasha Casey presents at ALA conference

Bettina Chang (City Bureau), Kristen Calvert (Dallas Public Library), Natasha Casey (LLCC), Donnell Probst (National Association for Media Literacy Education), and Hannah Waltz (PEN America) presenting at the American Library Association conference in Chicago earlier this summer.Dr. Natasha Casey, assistant professor of communication, was part of the media and information literacy panel “Addressing the Spread of Misinformation and Disinformation: The Library’s Role” at the American Library Association conference in Chicago earlier this summer. She participated alongside colleagues from PEN America, the National Association for Media Literacy Education, Dallas Public Library and City Bureau – Chicago. Dr. Casey thanks the Faculty Development & Recognition Committee, which provided funding for this trip.
