Condolences to friends and family of Larry Hackwith
Our condolences to friends and family of former employee Larry Hackwith, who passed away Sept. 8. He was a staff member in Facilities Services from 2001 to 2005 and again from 2010 to 2012 and was an uncle of two current Facilities Services staff.
A Celebration of Life for Larry will be held on Sept. 30 at VFW Post 10302, 2349 Stockyard Road in Springfield. All are welcome to attend.
“Stamps of Hope II” opens at 8 a.m. today
The traveling art exhibit “Stamps of Hope II,” showcasing Syrian refugee artwork from the Zaa’tari Refugee Camp in Jordan, opens today and runs through Oct. 13. The exhibit can be viewed weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Trutter Museum/Murray Gallery, located in Menard Hall.
The public is invited to attend a gallery talk and reception featuring Middle Eastern cuisine on Thursday, Sept. 28, 5-6:30 p.m. in the Trutter Center. Rihab Sawah, LLCC professor of physics and organizer of the Stamps of Hope II exhibit, will present the gallery talk.
The current “Stamps of Hope II” exhibit is opening at LLCC and will travel around the country for five years. New paintings and new contributing artists join the exhibit annually.

LLCC to host SkySoar Fest today, 1-3 p.m.
SkySoar Fest, an outdoor showcase of radio-controlled flyers and drones sponsored by the Computer Science Academy, is today from 1-3 p.m. northeast of Cass Gymnasium. In case of rain, displays and presentations will be moved inside to the Student Union in the lower level of Menard Hall.
Faculty from LLCC Computer Science, Agriculture, Geography and Unmanned Aircraft System Remote Pilot Training programs and members of the Sangamon Valley RC Flyers will have displays and provide demonstrations. They will also talk about applications for small, unmanned aircraft technology in various careers, including search and rescue, precision agriculture, mapping and photography.
Deadline today to register for Cardboard Boat Regatta
Faculty, staff, students and alumni are invited to participate in LLCC’s second cardboard boat regatta on Sept. 22 at Lake Macoupin! Check in will be 9-10 a.m. with the race starting at 11 a.m. Today is the deadline to register through the online regatta registration form, at the LLCC Police Department in Sangamon Hall South or by calling 217-786-2278.

Show off your artwork at the LLCC Art After Hours Exhibit
Your artwork IS good enough! Show it off by participating in the Springfield Area Arts Council’s Arts After Hours (AAH) program (formerly known as On My Own Time).
Artwork entry form and fees will need to be submitted by Monday, Sept. 25 to the LLCC coordinator (Misty Schierer). Artwork is due to Misty by Monday, Oct. 16.

LLCC’s in-house exhibit will be featured on the LLCC-Springfield campus in October/November. The artist of the favorite piece at LLCC will win the LLCC People’s Choice Award and receive a $100 Visa gift card courtesy of the Philip and Mary Kathryn Trutter Museum.
This unique program provides LLCC faculty and staff an opportunity to display original art they have created outside the office. There will be an in-house exhibit at LLCC followed by a city-wide exhibit showcasing first place award-winning artwork from all participating businesses, agencies and institutions. The fee assists SAAC with costs of the AAH program.
