Compliance and Prevention Office information and resources for a welcoming environment
LLCC is committed to providing a welcoming environment for all members of our campus community. As we begin a new academic year, the Office of Compliance and Prevention encourages all staff and faculty to review the following information and resources:
When meeting new people and working with new students, allow individuals the opportunity to self-identify their name and pronouns. Using gender neutral pronouns (they, them, their) or someone’s chosen name in place of assigning pronouns based on your assumptions can prevent harmful situations of misgendering or “outing” a student. Remember that a student’s chosen name is used on WebAdvisor class rosters, and that it can be found within the “Pref Name” field in NAE in Colleague. LLCC respects the identities of all individuals. As such, all staff and faculty are encouraged to familiarize themselves with LLCC’s nondiscrimination policy (1.6) and sexual harassment, other harassment, and discrimination policy (1.7). Laura Anderson, assistant professor of art, was featured in the State Journal-Register’s Someone to Know section. Her mixed media painting exhibit, “elemental,” is now open in LLCC’s James S. Murray Gallery. The public is invited to view the exhibit weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Sept. 12 and attend a reception on Thursday, Aug. 22 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Join us in welcoming students to the fall semester!
The fall semester has begun, and today kicks off Welcome Week! Please join us in welcoming new and returning students to campus! Volunteers will be working the Welcome Week table in A. Lincoln Commons and other campus buildings, greeting students, providing directions and helping answer questions.
Accessible parking spaces
As everyone returns to the Springfield campus for the fall semester, please note that some accessible parking spaces have been relocated in various parking lots. As part of the site paving project, we have made a specific effort to group these as close as possible to buildings and provide a striped crosswalk on an accessible route to get to the nearest building. We hope to increase the overall safety and convenience for anyone that utilizes the accessible parking spaces. HR has revamped its Employee Portal page on SharePoint! It is a comprehensive and complete source of information and forms for employees. Important news and links to key documents and websites are available on this page. The left navigation bar has links to dedicated pages for all HR-related functions such as benefits, hiring, educational assistance, supervisor resources, etc. This page will be kept up-to-date so you can be assured you’ll always be looking at current forms, resources, processes, etc. Please take a moment to check it out and become familiar with all that is available to you.
“elemental” by Laura Anderson opens today in Murray Gallery
The art exhibit “elemental,” featuring mixed media paintings by Laura Anderson, LLCC assistant professor of art, opens today in LLCC’s James S. Murray Gallery. The public is invited to view the exhibit weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Sept. 12 and attend a reception on Thursday, Aug. 22 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Anderson’s work is inspired by the natural world, including its complexities, commonalities, mysteries and working processes. “We are part of nature, yet we’re set apart from it in many ways,” she explains. “My work explores the intersection of this duality, often via drawn or painted natural imagery combined with collaged artifacts and urban landscapes that reflect the man-made world.
“Working with collage, décollage, encaustic, charcoal, graphite and acrylic allows me to explore the history of process in my work via layering of structured collage elements with irregular lines, gestural brushstrokes and fluid forms that evoke the universal visual language that is evident everywhere in nature.”
Make-up testing moves to Placement and Testing office
As of today the Center for Academic Success will no longer proctor make-up exams for the general student population. Make-up testing has been relocated to LLCC Placement and Testing in Menard Hall, Room 1128.
Testing will remain in the Center for Academic Success ONLY for the following student populations:
- Students who require a test reader
- Students who require a test scribe
- Students who require a private testing room with a proctor
Faculty will receive notification from Kim Eddings, accessibility services coordinator, if a student enrolled in one of their courses requires any special testing arrangements.
For make-up testing hours in the LLCC Placement and Testing, please contact Stephanie Cummings, placement and testing coordinator, at 786-2246. For the new make-up testing form, please refer to the email sent Tuesday, Aug. 13.
