The LLCC Writing Center is excited to announce new, formalized walk-in hours Monday-Thursday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the fall semester. Walk-in service will be located in the Writing Center behind the staircase, just opposite the Math Center. Students should sign-in for walk-in hours at the Writing Center’s front desk.
Of course, students can still make formal appointments with a faculty tutor, especially if they want to discuss a full draft of a writing assignment, and they may also come to the center during any of the center’s open hours to get help if a tutor or specialist is available, but these designated walk-in hours will allow students to receive more focused tutoring on smaller writing issues during our high-traffic hours.

The annual Convocation to kick off the 2019-20 academic year is being held today, Aug. 16, in Cass Gym. Breakfast begins at 8:30 a.m., with an address by Dr. Warren at 9 a.m.
LLCC is participating in the Springfield Area Arts Council’s On My Own Time (OMOT) program, providing LLCC faculty and staff the opportunity to display original art created outside the office. Faculty and staff may each enter up to three artworks created since 2016 for $5 per entry fee. The fee assists SAAC with costs of the OMOT program. Artwork entry and identification forms and fees will need to be submitted by Thursday, Sept. 12 to one of the LLCC coordinators (Misty or Lindee). Artwork is due to the LLCC coordinators by Monday, Sept. 23.
Dr. Charlotte Warren, president, was invited yesterday by Sangamon County Sheriff Jack Campbell to view the large wall mural recently installed in the Sheriff’s office suite. It depicts an 1800s-era map of Sangamon County. A smaller version, with hand drawings of several historic sites in Sangamon County and a list of all past sheriffs, is mounted in his office. The project was designed and produced by Thom Whalen, professor of art, and his student, Jessica Le. Sheriff Campbell, who is an LLCC alum, had the idea for the wall map, and expressed his thanks to Dr. Warren for letting him work with LLCC to make it a reality.
Professor Whalen, who also created the logo for the upcoming 200th anniversary of the Sheriff’s Office, commented, “Jessica is a first-generation college student who came to us with so much talent. She had this great experience at LLCC and is now going into interior design and art history at ISU. It was a perfect opportunity for her.” He noted that Ryan Roberts, interim dean of English and humanities, assisted by locating the map.
Aaron Bernhardt has recently joined LLCC as an education services representative at LLCC-Littchfield.
