Fall Film Series showing today

The film “¡No!” will be shown this evening beginning at 6 p.m. in the Trutter Center. The event is part of LLCC’s fall film and discussion series entitled “Through a Different Lens” and is hosted by Ashley Green, Ph.D., assistant professor of English; Paul Van Heuklom, professor of English; and Joseph Hoff, Ph.D., professor of Spanish. There is no charge to attend.

Gael García Bernal stars in “¡No!” (2012), a film that recalls the pivotal moment in Chilean history when the citizens of the country are offered an historically unique opportunity to rid themselves of the country’s dictatorship.

Attendees are also invited to arrive early to view culturally relevant artifacts on display from the college’s Trutter collection, and view the exhibit “Trutter: Black and White,” featuring photos of landmarks designed by Philip Trutter.

Upcoming films in the series include: Continue reading

Look what you could win, while helping others!

img_2235Here’s what you could win if you donate to LLCC’s United Way campaign! All donors are put in a drawing to win one of five gift baskets:

“Trader Joe’s Favorites,” “Jackpot of Cash,” “Backyard BBQ,” “Art Party for 2” and “Wine and Chocolate Date Night.”

Most importantly, here’s what Professional Staff representative Greg Walbert writes, “I hear the words that Andrew Dewey shared in the luncheon keynote on Professional Development Day… (paraphrasing) “you never know the situation or circumstances the persons here in the classrooms and in the hallways are having to deal with.” It’s exciting and inspirational to know there are individuals working hard, here at LLCC, to make a positive difference for them. There are individuals and organizations throughout the district also working hard to make a positive and life-changing difference in the lives of so many others all around us. We GET TO come alongside them and partner in that work.

Please consider extending the grace and generosity you have shown to those here, to those just a little outside your reach through the United Way. There is a generous spirit here at LLCC that is easy to be proud of.”

The LLCC United Way Campaign concludes tomorrow. Please return your pledge form to your group representative, or call them and they’ll get a form to you!

You may hear some drilling today before 8 a.m. and between classes

We have begun the project to upgrade the cooling and battery systems in the communications area in the lower level of Menard.  This will involve drilling holes in the concrete slab systems at the southeast corner of the building.  We will begin on Wednesday morning (today) and will limit our drilling to the hours prior to 8 a.m.  We may use the periods between classes to drill a small pilot hole or two, but this will be on a limited basis.

We expect that the entire project will be completed in a matter of weeks, not months, and appreciate your patience.

Thank you.
