50 Acts of Service-proposedLLCC-Beardstown student Alexis Ronquillo and Vanessa Avery, administrative assistant, spent four hours at the Cass County Food Pantry recently as part of LLCC’s 50 Acts of Service in celebration of our anniversary.

LLCC-Beardstown is also holding a canned food drive through Dec. 16 to benefit the Cass County Food Pantry.

Also, the Black Student Union and Eastside Pride, would like to thank everyone for your donations to the coat drive.  During this season of giving, we are grateful for your support of our 50 Acts of Service.

Extended Hours in Enrollment Services

The LLCC main campus will be offering extended hours for registration leading up to the start spring classes, beginning this Saturday.

Admission/Registration/Records, Advising/Counseling/Career Services, Financial Aid and Placement & Testing will be available in addition to regular hours on the following:

  • Sat, Dec 10, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • Mon-Thu, Jan 2-5, 8 a.m.-7 p.m.
  • Sat, Jan. 7, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • Mon-Thu, Jan. 9-12, 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m.

The Bookstore will be open during regular hours of Mon-Thu, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. and Fri, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., with the addition of Sat, Jan. 7, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Open Door collaborates with Springfield historic sites to host writing workshop and concert.

LLCC’s Open Door program is collaborating with the state’s historic sites in Springfield and the Lincoln Home National Historic Site to present a writing workshop for student artists and a special community concert at the Springfield campus Dec. 15.

The “I Am America” Writers Workshop will take place in the R. H. Stephens Room from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.  The workshop is designed for poets, singer-songwriters spoken word artists and authors. Participants will discuss topics such as songwriting, writer’s block, starting your book, and creating a song demo.  Registration is required to participate in the workshop by contacting Michael Phelon in the Open Door Mentorship Program at Michael.phelon@llc.edu or 217-786-3689.

Music and Conversation will kickoff with an artist reception at 5:30 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons.  The main event, a concert and thoughtful conversation inspired by some of Antonio Neal’s latest songs, starts at 6 p.m. Read more…

In celebration of the college’s 50th anniversary in 2017, the LLCC Foundation has introduced the steppingSTONES recognition brick program.  Bricks will be installed in the spring of 2017 in the steppingSTONES courtyard located just outside of the A. Lincoln Commons on the Springfield campus.

Bricks are $100 for a 4” x 8” or $250 for an 8” x 8” brick with the inscription of your choice.  Don’t know what to have inscribed on the brick?  We can help or you can let the recipient choose.  Below are some examples:

Jason Dockter, Ph.D., professor of English, wrote the essay “LLCC: A leader in online education” for the State Journal-Register Our Towns page Dec. 4.

Catherine Wittler, vice president of the LLCC chapter of Phi Theta Kappa honor society, spoke on WTAX yesterday about tonight’s showing of the documentary “Miss Representation” at 6 p.m. in the Trutter Center. Everyone is invited to the showing and discussion following, with no admission charge.

David Bowman, workforce program development coordinator, Agricultural Watershed Management, appeared on WLDS “What’s on your mind” Dec. 5 to discuss new courses available at LLCC-Jacksonville and an upcoming information session. The new courses were also recently featured in Morning Ag Clips.

SGA Angel Tree-Angels Still Available

A reminder that LLCC SGA is sponsoring an Angel Tree to spread joy and cheer to local senior residents of Springfield Retirement Village. Students, faculty and staff are invited to take an angel from the holiday tree located in the A. Lincoln Commons and purchase a gift for the resident named on the angel tag. Angels are still available on the tree, please bring all gifts with the angel tag to the Student Life Office by Monday, Dec.12.

IMPORTANT: LLCC LAUNCHING NEW EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION SYSTEM WEDNESDAY-PLEASE CHECK YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION

LLCC is launching a new emergency notification system this Wednesday, Dec. 7, called LLCC ALERT. The LLCC ALERT system allows the college to communicate with you by text, phone and email in the case of an emergency, as well as severe weather and other closures. Current employees and students are automatically enrolled in LLCC ALERT.

We strongly encourage you to visit www.llcc.edu/alert and log in with your LLCC user name and password to check your current contact information and manage how you receive emergency notifications. LLCC ALERT uses the information about you currently stored in the college’s Colleague system, and this information may need updating. Please add your office phone number if it is not listed, and make any other revisions needed.

You will receive an email today and tomorrow with this same information, urging you to check your current contact information at www.llcc.edu/alert. On Wednesday, you will receive a test message from LLCC ALERT. You will then receive a follow-up email to make sure you received the test message.

LLCC ALERT employs the RAVE system used successfully by colleges and universities nationwide, and replaces the current LLCC Connect emergency notification system.

Note: Updating your contact information in LLCC ALERT will NOT update that information in Colleague. To update your information in Colleague, please contact Human Resources.

LLCC Big Band Performance Tonight

LLCC’s Recital Series continues this evening with a performance by the LLCC Big Band, beginning at 7 p.m. at First Christian Church, 6th and Cook, Springfield.

LLCC’s Big Band, directed by Jane Hartman, professor of music, consists of LLCC students and community members performing arrangements of big bands such as those of Count Basie and Woody Herman. It also serves as a lab band for students who wish to write original arrangements. The Big Band performs a number of public concerts each year and also at campus events.

Sunday, March 19 – Chamber Music Recital with Brickhouse Brass and Blackwater Strings, 4 p.m., Trutter Center, LLCC Springfield campus.
