Help Students Learn About Careers in Public Services

The LLCC Career Center will be hosting a Public Service Careers Expo on Nov. 7, from 9 a.m. to noon in A. Lincoln Commons. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to explore careers in the public sector, with representatives from 20 state agencies and several local and federal agencies in attendance. This is a casual, exploratory event where students can learn about job opportunities in public service, meet professionals from various government agencies and ask questions about potential career paths. While students are not expected to dress formally or bring a resume, they are welcome to do so if they wish.

We believe this event will be valuable for students, whether they are just starting to think about their career paths or are more certain of their future plans in public service. Please consider sharing this information with your students and encouraging them to attend.

Donate to LLCC’s Student Thanksgiving Lunch

Pumpkins and leavesLLCC Registration is excited to announce our annual Student Thanksgiving Lunch will be held on Friday, Nov. 22 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event is a wonderful opportunity to show appreciation for our hardworking students and unite the campus community.

To make this event a success, we’re seeking your generous support through donations. Donation Drive for Compass for Kids

The IV Leaguers Nursing Club is supporting Compass for Kids through a drive this season. Between now and Nov. 15 they will accept donations of warm socks & gloves, individually packed snacks with a long-shelf life, and pillows.
Boxes will be located in:

  • Montgomery Hall
  • A. Lincoln Commons
  • Sarah Laurent’s Hillsboro office
  • Kim Conover‘s Jacksonville office

National Radiologic Technology Week Trivia

Continuing the celebration of National Radiologic Technology Week…here’s a bit of trivia for you!

black and white photo of Wilhelm Roentgen.Wilhelm Roentgen discovered x-rays quite by accident on Nov. 8, 1895. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed a piece of cardboard coated with barium platinocyanide glowing when he was working with electricity in a vacuum tube in front of him. He called the mysterious rays x-rays because x stands for the unknown! At the time of Roentgen’s discovery of x-ray, there were several others who were also experimenting with a vacuum tube. Roentgen had an advantage due to a condition that made him extraordinarily sensitive to faint light. He was better able to see the faint glow that was being emitted because he was colorblind!

Housing & Basic Needs Support is available for LLCC students

Hello from Student Success!  As we approach finals and the winter holidays, we’d like to remind you that we offer several avenues of support for our students. If you encounter a student experiencing housing insecurity or homelessness or that needs assistance with basic needs such as food, utility or rental assistance or related needs, please refer students to us through the established process via the referral link (below).Using the referral link preserves students’ privacy and protects their personal information. To refer a student:

Career Development Month – My Story boards

November is National Career Development Month, and the Career Center invites your participation in sharing career insights with our students. We’re excited to bring back the “My Story Boards,” which faculty and staff can fill out and display in their offices or outside their doors. Sharing your educational and career journeys can be both inspirational and informative for students, especially when integrated into classroom discussions.

The Career Center is delivering My Story Boards to Administrative Assistant Offices. If you did not receive a My Story Board and would like one, please email CareerCenter@LLCC.edu, and we’ll be happy to bring one to your office.
