Share the news, LLCC’s fall Open House is Monday, Oct. 14, 2-5 p.m. at the Springfield campus and Jacksonville, Taylorville and Litchfield Outreach Centers.

Cardboard Boat Regatta Registration ends today

Cardboard Boat Regatta. Lincoln Land Community College.Today is the final day to register your team for LLCC’s third annual Cardboad Boat Regatta. Register at the LLCC Police Department in Sangamon Hall South, by calling 217-786-2278 or online.

The regatta happens on Friday, Sept. 27 at Lake Macoupin! Check in will be 9-10 a.m. with the race starting at 11 a.m.

The LLCCPD can provide cardboard, while supplies last. (Please note: duct tape is not provided.) A boat construction area is provided under the overhang between Sangamon Hall North and Sangamon Hall South. All painting must be done in the grass west of the construction area. Please respect the space and keep your site tidy. Contact LLCC PD for more details.

The boats will be on display on the lawn west of the Helen Hamilton Center prior to the race. Awards will be given in such categories as fastest boat, best design, LLCC spirit and Titanic!

“Well, I’ll be Banned” happens today in A. Lincoln Commons

LLCC English and Humanities has planned two weeks worth of activities to recognize Banned Books Week, Sept. 22-28 and October’s National Book Month. This week’s activities include:

Wednesday, Sept. 25

  • Noon-2 p.m. – “Well, I’ll be Banned”: A Celebration of Banned Books in A. Lincoln Commons.
  • Kickoff of the InstaHaiku contest, open to LLCC students. The contest, sponsored by the LLCC Writing Center, will close Oct. 3.
  • 2-3:30 p.m. – Quiet Reading Party – A bring your own book (BYOB) event with tea and cookies, in the Writing Center.

Thursday, Sept. 26

  • 1-3 p.m. – Teachers as Writers Panel in the LLCC Library

Friday, Sept. 27

  • Noon-2 p.m. – Student Open Mic in A. Lincoln Commons.
  • 3-5:45 p.m. – Film screening of “Hugo” in Menard Hall, Room 2207
  • 6-8 p.m. – “All Booked Up”: An Evening of Literary Reading with Local Authors in A. Lincoln Commons.

Around the World Gourmet Dinner Kit Pickup Event – Friday, Nov. 1

LLCC Foundation Gourmet Dinner Kit Pickup prepared by LLCC Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts Program. 217-786-2343. www.llccfoundation.org.The LLCC Foundation in partnership with LLCC’s Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts Program is once again offering a five-course gourmet dinner kit pickup on Friday, Nov. 1. Formerly known as the Around the World event, Take and Create features dishes prepared by culinary students that can be finished and served with a little preparation at home.

Gourmet dinner kits with drink pairings are $150 and serves two people. View the menu and order your gourmet dinner kits today on the Take and Create web page for pick up between 4-5:30 p.m. on Nov. 1. This fundraiser benefits our students and programs while providing a hands-on experience for culinary students.

Only a few more days to submit your KUDOS nominations

Lincoln Land Community College KUDOS: Key or Unique Demonstrations of Outstanding ServiceKey or Unique Demonstrations of Outstanding Service award nominations are open! They will be accepted through Friday, Sept. 27. Faculty and staff can nominate a deserving colleague by submitting the KUDOS form (also available by clicking on the KUDOS tab in the upper-right corner of LincIn). Please use a Chrome or Firefox browser when completing this form. The KUDOS awards will be announced Friday, October 11.

The KUDOS awards are an informal way to recognize the special contributions — small and large — made by faculty and staff that create the positive environment that is LLCC.

HALLOWEEN BOO-TIQUE COSTUME COLLECTION

As Halloween approaches, the LLCC Honors Program is hosting a costume donation drive to support those in need within our local community! Everyone is invited to participate in this special fundraiser by donating old or gently used Halloween costumes or costume accessories. All donations will be given to a local elementary school!Three kids in Halloween costumes

How You Can Help

  • Donate your costumes: If you have costumes, masks, hats, or other accessories from past Halloweens that are no longer in use, consider donating them. Kids’ costumes, adult costumes, or even costume parts are all welcome!
  • Spread the word: Share this with your friends and family and encourage them to join in too. The more costumes we collect, the more we can support our community.

Drop-Off Information:

  • Donations can be dropped off in A. Lincoln Commons in Menard Hall, Sept. 30-Oct. 2 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Apple cider provided for those donating.
  • There will be collection boxes located in Sangamon Hall, Office 2312 as well as outside the Honors Lounge in Menard Hall, 2238.
