LLCC observing Adult Education and Family Literacy Week
In observance of Adult Education and Family Literacy Week in Illinois, Lincoln Land Community College is highlighting the free services offered to individuals 16 and over by its Adult Education department.
“We offer classes to prepare individuals to obtain a high school equivalency certificate or master the English language,” said Jamil Steele, director of LLCC Adult Education. “These classes are funded through combined state and federal funds administered through the Illinois Community College Board and help students improve skills that lead to further education and employment.”
“We urge anyone who could benefit from our services to ‘move ahead with adult ed,’” added Steele.
In addition to high school equivalency preparation and English as a Second Language classes, the program offers adult basic education (pre-high school equivalency) and career pathways programs.

New viewbook online
The latest LLCC Viewbook is now available online! It encourages students to picture themselves at LLCC and find out what LLCC can be for them. Future students can learn about why LLCC is a great choice, support services, hands-on training, online learning, activities and steps to enroll. There is also information on tuition and a list of all LLCC degrees, certificates and short-term training opportunities.
Library hosting 9/11 poster exhibit through Sept. 30
The walk-through exhibit “Sept. 11, 2001: The Day That Changed the World” will be viewable on the square pillars on the first floor, northwest side of the LLCC Library through Sept. 30. The poster exhibition was made possible through the efforts of Leslie Ross, librarian/professor.
This educational exhibition recounts the events of Sept. 11, 2001 through the personal stories of those who 
witnessed and survived the attacks. Told across 14 posters, the exhibition includes archival photographs and images of artifacts from the 9/11 Memorial and Museum’s permanent collection. It explores the consequences of terrorism on individual lives and communities at the local, national and international levels, and encourages critical thinking about the legacies of 9/11.
The exhibition was developed by the 9/11 Memorial and Museum and made possible in part by the National Endowment of the Humanities.

Bistro To Go open today
Bistro Verde, LLCC’s student-run café, is open during the fall 2021 semester as Bistro To Go. It is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. through Nov. 18 (except for Nov. 2). You are invited to enjoy takeout soups, salads, sandwiches, baked goods, coffees and drinks prepared by LLCC culinary arts, baking and pastry, and hospitality students. View the fall 2021 menu!

Register for Wellbeing Assessment and Flu Shot
The college is once again offering a wellness screening and flu shot clinic on Monday, Oct. 4 and Thursday, Oct. 21. Full details of this event are provided in the guide and informational flyers emailed by HR.
The wellness screening is free for benefit-eligible employees (and their spouses) who are on the college’s health insurance plan. If you sign up for a wellness screening, you are also eligible for a free flu shot. Benefit-eligible employees (and their spouses) who are not on the college’s health insurance plan may also participate, but must pay the cost of the screening and/or flu shot. However, all participating benefit-eligible employees will receive a $50 Visa gift card for completing the wellness screening and online health risk assessment.

Barb Eades, assistant director, LLCC Foundation, and Sean Keeley, culinary specialist, were interviewed Sept. 17 on Sports Radio 1450 AM Springfield about the Foundation’s partnership with LLCC Culinary and Hospitality Arts to offer a five-course gourmet dinner kit pickup on Friday Oct. 1, 3-6 p.m. The “Around the World” themed menu will feature cuisine from a variety of regions and gives culinary students a first-hand opportunity to prepare and serve the meal which can then be finished with a little preparation at home.
“On My Own Time” entry forms and fees due Sept. 30
LLCC is participating in the Springfield Area Arts Council’s On My Own Time (OMOT) program, providing LLCC faculty and staff the opportunity to display original art created outside the office. Faculty and staff may enter up to three works of art each. Works previously entered in OMOT or created prior to 2020 are not eligible. The artist fee is $5 per artwork submitted. The fee assists SAAC with costs of the OMOT program.

Artwork entry, identification forms and fees will need to be submitted by Thursday, Sept. 30 to one of the LLCC coordinators (Misty or Lindee). Artwork is due to the LLCC coordinators by Wed., Oct. 6.

LLCC’s in-house exhibit will be featured on the LLCC-Springfield campus Oct. 12-28. Those who visit the exhibit can vote for their favorite piece. The artist who created it will win the LLCC People’s Choice Award and receive a $100 Visa gift card courtesy of the Philip and Mary Kathryn Trutter Museum.
The city-wide exhibit at the Springfield Art Association (Nov. 3-20) will showcase first place award-winning artwork from all participating businesses, agencies and institutions. At the previous OMOT in 2019, three LLCC employees had four pieces of art move on to the city-wide exhibit!
