LLCC Facilities welcomes Williemae Stephens

Williemae StephensLLCC Facilities welcomes Williemae Stephens to the team! Williemae started on Oct. 10 as a building custodian. She will focus on Menard & Sangamon Halls. She was most recently at SIU School of Medicine but brings her years of industry experience to her new position. Williemae was born and raised in Chicago, and now calls Springfield home. Welcome to LLCC Williemae!

Employee Health Fair

The 2024 Employee Health Fair drew a crowd on Tuesday in the Student Union. Hopefully you had the chance to have your blood drawn, get a flu shot and meet vendors from around town who specialize in all aspects of wellbeing.

Thanks for helping to make the 20th Annual Multicultural Fest a great one!

After counting 134 fully completed “passports” and seeing hundreds more people come through the doors, we know the exhibitors stayed busy talking with members of our community. We are appreciative of every person who stopped by the event or told someone else about it!

A special thanks is owed to:

Choosing a Health Care Career Workgroup meets today

The fourth of five LLCC workgroups, inspired by convocation, meets today, Oct. 10 from 1-3 p.m. in Kreher Agriculture Center, Room 1117.

Choosing a Health Care Career: Pathways & Entry Barriers

The need for health care providers is increasing in a post-COVID world that has led to a decrease in those choosing health care careers. That means that we need to promote pathways and career opportunities in those fields while also reducing/eliminating barriers to enrollment. This does not mean reducing quality, but it does mean we need to make entry for qualified applicants more seamless and demonstrate that our programs should be the health care programs of choice throughout our district.

Don’t Miss the Employee Health Fair Today in the Student Union

Join us for the Employee Health Fair today from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Union! This is your chance to connect with over 20 vendors focused on health and wellness, attend live demos, and take part in breathing exercises led by Balance Yoga at the top of each hour.

There are still a few spots available for a free 10-minute chair massage – don’t forget to book your appointment! Employees will also have the opportunity to win great prizes by visiting vendor booths and filling out their event passport.

Cardboard Boat Regatta happens tomorrow!

Cardboard Boat Regatta. Lincoln Land Community College.Tomorrow is the day! All ships and sailors for LLCC’s 3rd annual Cardboard Boat Regatta will test their craft on Lake Macoupin.

Check in will be from 9-10 a.m. with the race starting at 11 a.m.

The boats will be on display on the lawn west of the Helen Hamilton Center prior to the race. Awards will be given in such categories as fastest boat, best design, LLCC spirit and Titanic!

Donations Being Accepted for linemen working in hurricane-ravaged areas

The devastation of recent storms has left many out of power in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. More than 100 electrical line workers, including former LLCC students and those affiliated with our lineman program partner (Association of Illinois Electric Cooperatives), are onsite in these locations to restore power.

LLCC’s electrical distribution lineman program, in collaboration with the LLCC Foundation, is holding a donation drive this week for supplies to help out these line workers and potentially those affected by the storms. They will be delivering supplies on Saturday. Items needed include bottles of water, granola bars, bags of chips (individual serving size).

All donations are appreciated and can be dropped off in the LLCC Foundation office through Friday, Oct. 11, at noon.

Faculty Development: Beyond Laziness: Uncovering Hidden Barriers to College Success

As faculty, we have all struggled to understand why students miss assignments, don’t come to class, procrastinate when taking exams, etc. Instead of contributing this behavior to laziness or apathy, what if we tried to identify potential barriers that might be precipitating these actions and devise targeted interventions to mitigate their effects? This webinar provides strategies to find, understand, and alleviate potential hidden barriers to student success in higher education.

Join us for, Beyond Laziness: Uncovering Hidden Barriers to College Success, this Thursday, Oct. 10 from 1-2:30 p.m. in Sangamon 1102 or on Teams. Register online.

Presenters include, Anne Armbruster, director, student support services; Alex Berry, associate vice president, student success; Candace Silas, director, WEI and PATH.

This workshop will begin with a viewing of a live webinar in Sangamon 1102 at 1 p.m., followed by a discussion led by LLCC staff until 2:30 p.m. Those who attend both parts in-person will receive 2 points. Those who attend only the discussion on Teams will be awarded 1 point.
