Peer Tutoring

Limited peer tutoring is available for summer courses. Peer tutors work with students who want extra support for a wide variety of LLCC courses. Students work with peer tutors to review course content, get help with homework, prepare for quizzes and tests or just to have an accountability partner. Whatever a student’s goals, working with a peer tutor is a great way to practice academic habits that lead to success. Faculty can include information about peer tutor availability in their Canvas course shells using the link or embed code.

Juneteenth Fact of the Day

The Journey of JuneteenthJuneteenth fact: There are various theories as to why the Emancipation Proclamation wasn’t immediately enforced in Texas. News traveled slowly in those days, but the 30 month gap between Lincoln’s proclamation and the enslaved people’s freedom led to much speculation. It is likely that Lincoln’s proclamation was not enforceable in rebel states until the end of the war. See more Juneteenth facts from Mental Floss.

Make plans to celebrate Juneteenth Freedom Day at LLCC on June 19, 2024, with the second annual Freedom Walk at 8:30 a.m. Each day before the celebration, the LLCC Juneteenth Committee will share a fact about this historic day.

Wining, Dining and Learning in Italy

LLCC contingent to Italy, summer 2024The LLCC Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts program recently sponsored a trip to Italy. The group of students and community members traveled to the Food Valley of Italy to learn about the Italian language, culture, culinary heritage and traditions of Italy.

Summer Welcome Week needs more volunteers

It’s Summer Welcome Week. Please help PRM staff the welcome table in A. Lincoln Commons June 3-6 during the first week of summer classes. We need a few more volunteers to fill all shifts.

Help students get a great start to their summer schedule by greeting them, answering their questions, providing directions and encouraging them to stop by the Welcome Week events hosted by LLCC Student Life! An FAQ reference sheet will be on the table along with highlighters to help in marking students’ routes to their classes.

To sign up, add your name to the Welcome Week – Summer 2024 – Volunteer Spreadsheet.xlsx or email Russell Michelich.

Juneteenth fact: More than two and a half years after Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, on Jan. 1, 1863, enslaved people in Texas were not aware they were already free. The June 19 announcement brought that information to the 250,000 enslaved people there. See more Juneteenth facts from Mental Floss.

New LLCC Training Ambulance

LLCC new training ambulanceThe LLCC community will likely start seeing the newly purchased “training unit” or ambulance for the Emergency Medical Services program running around campus. The ambulance was recently returned to the college after the exterior wrap was completed by Ace Sign Company in Springfield. The “training unit” or ambulance will be used by the EMS program to help train EMS students and for recruitment purposes. The program would like to give thanks to all of those that helped with the purchase.
