Two LLCC Foundation scholarships benefit from upcoming fundraisers

Two LLCC Foundation scholarships will be the beneficiaries of upcoming fundraisers, both set for Friday, July 8, in Springfield.

The 10th and final Jake Lessen Memorial Golf Outing at the Rail Golf Club will once again support the Jake Lessen Firefighter Memorial Scholarship.  All proceeds benefit the LLCC scholarship as well as an area fire department.

Jake was pursuing an Associate in Applied Science degree in fire science technology at LLCC before his death on Sept. 4, 2006, when he was fatally injured in a motorcycle accident.  The annual $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a part-time student enrolled in one of LLCC’s Fire Science Technology programs.

For more information or to register for the outing, download the application by clicking here, call 217.737.8807 or email LessenFamily@gmail.com.

Also on July 8, the Springfield Civic Garden Club will hold a dessert fundraiser to support the group’s  $1,000 annual LLCC Foundation scholarship which is awarded to a student majoring in an environmental related field of study.  The event will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Calvary Church, 501 West Hazel Dell Road in Springfield and coincides with the group’s Standard Flower Show.  A silent auction, live music and gourmet desserts by Pease’s at Bunn Gourmet will be featured.  Reservations can be made by calling 217.698.9647.  Click here for more details.

The Springfield Civic Garden Club was formed in 1929.  The objectives of the organization are to encourage the advancement of horticulture and creative design, to aid in civic beautification and to encourage conservation and protection of our natural resources.

Update on road repairs and parking lots project

Last week we completed and opened 441 parking places and 12 accessible parking locations.  This week’s schedule departs from the original somewhat, as we adjust to traffic flows and patterns.

Monday (yesterday), we worked in lots 13, 14 and 16.  We will stripe these lots on Wednesday.

Tuesday (today), we will be in lots 11 and 12 and the inside lane of Poorman Drive, striping these on Thursday.

Wednesday, we will complete lots 9 and 10.  (Striping on Friday)

Thursday we will be closing the east parking lot at Montgomery Hall and the north/south road from Montgomery Hall to the Millennium Center.

On Friday we will work on the west parking of Montgomery Hall.

Our goal this week is to have the east half of our campus completed before moving to the west section.  We will continue to keep you updated as we proceed.

Thanks for your patience, as always.
