LLCC lost a longtime faculty member on Thursday, May 26.
Paula Vehlow, professor of nursing at LLCC since 1987, passed away at St. John’s Hospital. We extend heartfelt sympathy to her family, many friends and colleagues at LLCC.
Her visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 31 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home and also from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, June 1 at the funeral home, just prior to services which begin at 11. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
Paula earned her bachelor of nursing at the University of Illinois and a master of nursing from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, and was pursuing a Ph.D. in nursing at UIUC. After five years teaching at St. John’s School of Nursing, she taught as many as three generations of nursing students at LLCC. Read her complete obituary.

A writer for SO magazine attended the Culinary Institute’s Thursday night pizza grilling class May 26 for an upcoming article about Community Education culinary classes. Chef Sean Keeley was interviewed.

The ICCTA Board of Representatives also gives an award to adjunct faculty each year. Congratulations to Melinda Pitt Kaye on being nominated for ICCTA’s 2016 Outstanding Part-Time Faculty Member Award! The recipient of the award will be recognized at ICCTA’s 50th anniversary banquet on June 3 in Springfield.
Andrew Blaylock, director, campus services, may have come up with the most creative way to beat the heat this week while the chiller replacement took place. With a cooler of ice, a fan and some strategically placed books, his homemade air conditioner is keeping him cool down in the Bookstore!
