Come one, come all, to the Finals Fair!

LLCC Student Life and the Center for Academic Success are once again co-hosting a Finals Fair on Tuesday, April 30, and Wednesday, May 1, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4:30-6 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons.

Students will receive a passport to visit tables filled with resources for final exam preparation. Tables to visit include: writing center, peer tutoring, academic success professionals, student success coaches, mental wellness and LLCC Student Life. After visiting the tables, students will turn in their stamped passport for a chance to win prizes!

All students participating in the Finals Fair will receive a Final Exam Survival Kit from Student Life. Snacks will be provided by the Student Government Association.

Friday is the Deadline for the Paul Simon Essay Contest

LLCC students have an opportunity to win a $500 scholarship by participating in the Paul Simon Essay Contest. Please encourage students to enter by writing a 500-word essay on the topic “How My Community College Changed My Life.”

Deadline: 3 p.m., Friday, March 22

Entries will be judged on style, clarity and relevance with special emphasis on grammar and punctuation. Submissions must include the student’s name, address, phone number and email address. Students are encouraged to schedule appointments in the LLCC Writing Center to review essays before submission. Submissions must be emailed to the Writing Center by the deadline, writing.center@llcc.edu.

LLCC prizes:

  • First place: $75 gas card and prizes from the LLCC Bookstore. The winning essay will be entered into the statewide competition for the chance to win $500 toward educational expenses for the fall 2024 and an invitation to attend the Illinois Community College Association’s awards banquet in June.
  • Second place: $25 gas card and prizes from the LLCC Bookstore.
  • Third place: prizes from the LLCC Bookstore.

Celebrate International Writing Centers Week!

Celebrate International Writing Centers Week Feb. 12-16, 2024. Treats, prizes, fun, activities,. The Writing Center is in the lower level of Sangamon Hall in the Center for Academic Success. Join us to celebrate writing and the important roles that writing centers play on college campuses and within the greater community. Brainstorm, organize, draft, revise and edit.Students, faculty and staff are invited to the LLCC Writing Center to help  celebrate International Writing Centers Week! Stop by the Writing Center during the week of Feb. 12-16 to pick up a goodie bag. Participate in one of the daily activities or a six-word story challenge for a chance to win prizes. Students meeting with a writing specialist or English faculty consultant in-person or via video conference during the week will also be entered into the drawing for prizes. Students who are not able to get to the main campus to visit the Writing Center can participate in the six-word story writing challenge by submitting an entry via email at WritingCenter@llcc.edu or schedule a video consultation to enter the prize drawing.
