LLCC Foundation honors retiring Litchfield administrators

The LLCC Foundation awarded scholarships to four seniors from Litchfield High School in honor of two retiring Litchfield CUSD #12 administrators: Dr. Gregg Fuerstenau, retiring superintendent, and Dr. David Lett, retiring career and technical education coordinator.

Students Hannah Schmidt, Zoe Hopper, Kirsten Gudausky and Johnathan Conlee each received $1,250 in LLCC scholarships. All four students graduated from Litchfield High School and will be attending LLCC in the fall.

Congratulations to LLCC’s Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society

Lincoln Land Community College Phi Theta Kappa Society. LLCC.LLCC’s Alpha Epsilon chapter of Phi Theta Kappa was recently named one of the organizations Top 100 Chapters for the first time in chapter history! That places the chapter in the top 8% of all PTK chapters internationally.

Dr. Gillian Bauer was awarded a Paragon Award for New Advisors, which recognizes significant contributions to chapter and individual member growth by an advisor with less than four years of experience. Olivia Marchizza was recognized as a Coca Cola New Century Transfer Pathway Scholar and chapter president Isaac Barrett, who also serves as the PTK Illinois Region central vice president, represented the Illinois Region on stage during the convention’s opening session.

 

Friday is the Deadline for the Paul Simon Essay Contest

LLCC students have an opportunity to win a $500 scholarship by participating in the Paul Simon Essay Contest. Please encourage students to enter by writing a 500-word essay on the topic “How My Community College Changed My Life.”

Deadline: 3 p.m., Friday, March 22

Entries will be judged on style, clarity and relevance with special emphasis on grammar and punctuation. Submissions must include the student’s name, address, phone number and email address. Students are encouraged to schedule appointments in the LLCC Writing Center to review essays before submission. Submissions must be emailed to the Writing Center by the deadline, writing.center@llcc.edu.

LLCC prizes:

  • First place: $75 gas card and prizes from the LLCC Bookstore. The winning essay will be entered into the statewide competition for the chance to win $500 toward educational expenses for the fall 2024 and an invitation to attend the Illinois Community College Association’s awards banquet in June.
  • Second place: $25 gas card and prizes from the LLCC Bookstore.
  • Third place: prizes from the LLCC Bookstore.

It’s scholarship time, you may be a reference

The LLCC Foundation scholarship application deadline is quickly approaching on Feb. 15! We would like to ask all LLCC staff and faculty members to please check your “junk” and “other” folders daily to look for potential emails from Michelle Burger, scholarship program coordinator, asking for you to serve as a reference. Thank you for your time and help serving as references to LLCC students!

“You Know?” Student Communication: Feb. 1-9

You know? LLCCPlease join us in letting students know that time is running out to apply for LLCC Foundation scholarships and to keep an eye out for “You Know” messages, which will help keep them in the loop on important dates, events and services available to them as LLCC students.

The deadline for students to apply for scholarships is Feb. 15. Students are awarded an average of $1,000. The LLCC Writing Center and LLCC Foundation will help students with their scholarship personal essays.
