Save the Date for Professional Development Day, March 25

Mark your calendars for Spring Professional Development Day on Tuesday, March 25. Professional development activities will be conducted at the department level, with no general sessions provided. Please contact your supervisor or dean with any questions regarding planned activities.

Lunch will be provided by the LLCC Foundation’s LEAGUE Campaign Committee. Details coming soon! Faculty and staff will also have an opportunity to tour the College’s new innovation space, coordinated by the Academic Innovation and eLearning department. Look for more information soon.

Nominate the 2025 Student Commencement Speaker

Faculty and Staff,

As we prepare for the Commencement ceremonies in 2025, we are excited to begin the process of selecting our student speaker. The student speaker plays a key role in representing the voice of the graduating class, inspiring peers, and celebrating the shared experience of our academic community.

We are looking for a student who exemplifies the values of LLCC—one who has shown leadership, perseverance, and a commitment to personal growth. This year, we are particularly seeking a student whose journey aligns with the theme of “Change”. We are looking for someone who has experienced significant transformation in their life, whether through their academic work, connections with faculty, staff, and peers, or by overcoming personal challenges. This student should have a unique perspective on how LLCC has helped shape or alter their outlook on life, their future, or their personal trajectory.

If you know a student who has demonstrated these qualities, someone who positively represents LLCC and embodies the spirit of growth and transformation, we invite you to submit a nomination for their consideration as the student speaker.

Please provide a brief rationale for your nomination, detailing how the student has embraced change and how their experiences at LLCC have impacted their path. Nominations should be submitted no later than March 22, 2025, to Gailyn Draper.

Safety Data Sheet Database Training

LLCC is transitioning to SDS Manager, an online safety data sheet management system. Training on how to access and use the database will be provided on Wednesday, March 3, at 3:30  p.m. in Kreher Agriculture Center, Room 1115/1117.

Anyone that uses hazardous chemicals or products is encouraged to attend. If you cannot attend in person, a video of the presentation will be made available on Environmental Health and Safety SharePoint page. If you have any questions, email Lisa Volk-Draper or call 217-786-3491.

LLCC Faculty and Staff To host webinar on embedded tutoring

A panel of LLCC staff and faculty will present a webinar about embedded tutoring in asynchronous online courses for NISOD this Monday, Feb. 24 at 1 p.m.

Join Tiffany Elliott, academic support programs coordinator; Lisa Avendano, writing center specialist; Kat Winchester, subject tutor; Tim McKenzie, professor of philosophy; and Colin Suchland, professor of sociology for “In Synch with Asynchronous Embedded Support: Strategies for Implementing Embedded Tutoring in Asynchronous Online Courses. As a NISOD member institution, registration is free to LLCC employees.

Journaling and Mindfulness Sessions Begin Next Week

Dear Journal. A pen and journal with a nearby plant.Join LLCC Faculty Deborah Brothers and John Paul Jaramillo for the first Journaling and Mindfulness session this semester, Tuesday, Feb. 25, 12:45 – 1:45 p.m. in Sangamon Hall, Room 1126, in the library.

This session begins with a 15 minute calming mindfulness exercise to help you step away from daily challenges and clear your mind. Following this, we’ll transition into journaling, sparking creativity and reflection in a supportive, relaxed setting through a journaling prompt.

The next event will be on March 4 at the same time and location. We hope you’ll join us for a midday recharge!

Final day to submit a KUDOS nomination

Lincoln Land Community College KUDOS: Key or Unique Demonstrations of Outstanding ServiceKey or Unique Demonstrations of Outstanding Service award nominations are open! They will be accepted through Friday, Feb. 21. Faculty and staff can nominate a deserving colleague by submitting the KUDOS form (also available by clicking on the KUDOS tab in the upper-right corner of LincIn). The KUDOS awards will be announced on Friday, March 7.

The KUDOS awards are an informal way to recognize the special contributions — small and large — made by faculty and staff that create the positive environment that is LLCC.
