Bistro Verde reopens Sept. 3

bistro verde in the Workforce Careers CenterBistro Verde, LLCC’s student-led café, reopens Sept. 3 and will serve customers Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The café is open as Bistro To Go, a counter service concept, from Sept. 3-Oct. 3, offering soups, salads, sandwiches, baked goods, coffees and drinks.

From Oct. 22-Nov. 21 (closed Nov. 5), the café transforms into Bistro Verde, a casual, dine-in restaurant experience. The full-service lunch features appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches, desserts, coffees, drinks and chef inspired dishes that are prepared from scratch using high quality ingredients and finished with creative flair. Reservations are recommended.

The menu as well as ordering and reservation information are available at www.llcc.edu/bistro-verde. Bistro Verde is located inside the east entrance of the Workforce Careers Center on the LLCC campus in Springfield.

In the LLCC Hospitality and Culinary Arts program, part of a student’s learning experience is to run a working café that is open to the public. LLCC offers an associate in applied science degree in culinary arts and in hospitality management and services. Professional certificates offered include first cook, culinary manager, baking and pastry, hospitality professional and hospitality supervisor. LLCC also offers non-credit cooking and baking classes, as well as dinners at Bistro Verde.

Student Technology Center

Student Technology CenterIf you have assignments that require students to use technology or if they use technology to complete an assignment, the Student Technology Center is here to support them. The Student Technology Center can provide help for students with software that is required for class assignments.

The Student Technology Center is also available to support students who may not have a strong technical background or who may require additional support getting started with a technology-based assignment.

The Student Technology Center is located next to the Canvas Support Center in the lower level of Sangamon Hall, is available to support students from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday – Friday. Students may stop by for on-demand support or they may schedule an appointment.

As we start a new school year, we wanted to share some resources on new features in Canvas. This slide deck link has some great information and links to tutorials on these new features. Volunteers needed for the Ag & Workforce Expo

We need your help! The Ag & Workforce Expo will be held Sept. 19 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m., and we need volunteers! The Expo hosts more than 1,000 high school students who come to campus to visit local businesses and LLCC programs. We need all hands-on deck help this event run smoothly.

Sign up online for volunteering roles/shifts. You are welcome to sign up for more than one shift/role just make sure you don’t overlap your times since you can’t be in two places at once. We expect the morning to be busier than the afternoon so that’s when we’ll really need help.

Monday Morning Mentor: How Can I use AI Tools to Better Manager My Time?

This week’s Monday Morning Mentor is about how to use AI tools to better manage time. This presentation is available today and on -demand for one week. You will need to enter the password: manage895 to view the program.

From this link, you can view the featured 20-Minute Mentor, as well as access the transcript, handouts, and supplemental material. These materials will not be available to be viewed until Monday when the presentation becomes available.

A new semester at LLCC means a new menu and re-opening of Bistro Verde. Chef Specialist Joshua Dineen walks us through the menu in this week’s Epicuriosity 101 column for the Springfield State Journal-Register.

Channing Fullaway-Johnson, culinary coordinator, LLCC Community Education, provided a demonstration of summer squash and grain salad on the WICS morning show Aug. 27. She also discussed upcoming culinary offerings at LLCC this fall.

LLCC ALERT test today

Each semester/term, LLCC tests its emergency alert system LLCC ALERT. LLCC ALERT allows the college to communicate with you by text, phone and email in an emergency, as well as for severe weather and other closures. Current employees and students are automatically enrolled in LLCC ALERT.

The next test is taking place today, Tuesday, Aug. 27, at approximately 11 a.m. You will receive a test message from LLCC ALERT.

We encourage you to visit www.llcc.edu/alert and log in with your LLCC username and password to check your current contact information and manage how you receive emergency notifications. LLCC ALERT uses the information about you currently stored in the college’s Colleague system, and this information may need updating.
