Fall film series “Through a Different Lens: Cultural Perspectives through Film” begins Oct. 26

LLCC Arts and Humanities will host a free film and discussion series this fall entitled, “Through a Different Lens: Cultural Perspectives through Film.” The film series will be held on select Thursday evenings from 6-9 p.m. in the Trutter Center, hosted by Ashley Green, Ph.D., professor of English and Joseph Hoff, Ph.D., professor of Spanish.

The films included in the series are: Oct. 26 – “Diarios de Motocicleta” (Motorcycle Diaries), Nov. 16 – “Monkey King II” and Dec. 7 – “Romero!” Read more about these films.

In addition, the Trutter Museum will be open until 6 p.m. on the Thursdays on which the films are shown. The museum will feature a display of cultural items from the country highlighted in the film that evening!

 

Institutional Improvement Day is Friday, Oct. 6

Institutional Improvement Day takes place this Friday, Oct. 6. The morning IID activities and lunch will be held in Cass Gym. A schedule is included below. Taking Stock of LLCC’s Institutional Improvement
LLCC has written two Systems Portfolios and completed two Systems Appraisals. Within successive portfolios, we must demonstrate that the institution is working systematically to improve the performance of our processes. How well are we demonstrating the Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle?  What opportunities exist institution wide? Dr. Bente will help us explore these questions and more.

LLCC Recital Series to feature JACK’d this Sunday, Oct. 8

The LLCC Recital Series will feature the premiere performance of JACK’d this Sunday at 4 p.m. in the Trutter Center. JACK’d is comprised of Jason Waddell, LLCC professor of music, on bass guitar and vocals; Aaron Gosnell, tenor sax, wind controller and vocals; Chris Gunn, drumset; and Kevin Carman, guitar.

Music performed will include standards from the 40s to today, with styles of jazz, blues, pop, swing and funk. From “Satin Doll” to “Waiting on the World to Change,” the performers hope to spread their love of music to all.

JACK’d members all have a Taylorville connection. Waddell was born and raised in Taylorville, Gunn is band director at Taylorville High School; Waddell, Gosnell and Carman all graduated from Taylorville High School.

Campus Visit Day is Monday!

Please help us welcome prospective students and their families to campus Monday, Oct. 9, for Campus Visit Day! The morning session begins at 10 a.m. in the Student Union. Following presentations there and in the R. H. Stephens Room, guests will tour campus and visit exhibits in A. Lincoln Commons until noon. The evening session runs from 5-7 p.m. and follows the same format. Please feel free to talk to any visitors you encounter about the advantages of enrolling at LLCC!

Dee Krueger, director, LLCC-Taylorville, was interviewed last Thursday, Sept. 28 on the 96.3 WTIM Morning Talkshow. She discussed the process for enrolling at LLCC, spring classes being offered at Taylorville, filing the FAFSA and upcoming events.

Meet candidates for VP of academic services at campus town halls

The search committee for the vice president of academic services has selected four candidates to interview. The resumes and cover letters of the four candidates are available to review in the library. They are on reserve and can be checked out at the circulation desk; however, they cannot be removed from the library. All LLCC faculty and staff will have an opportunity to attend campus town halls where they can meet and pose questions to the candidates. All campus town halls will be held in the R.H Stephens Room, and the schedule is listed below. Comment forms will be made available to attendees.

Seminar on estate planning Thursday, Oct. 5

The LLCC Foundation is presenting a free seminar on estate planning, “If there’s a will … it’s your way!” on Thursday, Oct. 5 from 9-11:30 a.m. in the Trutter Center.

The event is for people of all ages seeking guidance on how to get estate planning started or adjusted to meet their current needs. The seminar features three local estate planning specialists: Hugh Drake, Jennifer Stice and Ellen Bruce. Read more about the topics these speakers will be addressing.

Bistro To Go is open today from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Bistro To Go is open today, Thursday, Oct. 5!  It has soups, salads, sandwiches, baked goods and coffee drinks available for take away. Visit the LLCC Culinary Arts and Hospitality Program Facebook page for the latest menu items.

This fall, Bistro to Go will be open Tuesdays and Thursdays 11 a.m.–1 p.m. Sept. 12 through Nov. 16. Cash and credit cards are accepted. Orders can be placed in person, by phone at 786-2821 or by email at bistroverde@llcc.edu.
