Summer Midday Yoga begins June 6

You can use your lunch hour as a time to unwind and reset your mind. Yoga is proven to benefit mental and physical health. Midday Yoga is a course designed to accommodate the needs of beginning yoga students as well as experienced practitioners. Participants will practice physical postures that stretch and open the body. All levels of experience are welcome. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat. There is a course limit of 20 participants, so sign up as soon as possible!

Tomato plant pickup

Tomato plants ordered from the LLCC Environmental Club can be picked up tomorrow, May 16, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and 3-5:30 p.m.

Please try to come by the greenhouse, on the second floor of Sangamon Hall, during one of these times.  If you cannot pick up your tomato plants during these times, please text Becky Croteau at 217-801-5215.

The U.S. flag and the state flag are being flown at half-staff until sunset today, May 15, in honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day.

It is that time of year again … Commencement! Attached is a document with information regarding Commencement logistics – parking, layout of the center, etc. Please review this information thoroughly.

Regarding parking, an update: The Old Capitol Art Fair is this weekend and artists will be arriving Friday to set up. Some downtown roads are blocked off and parking may be at a premium, including the Horace Mann parking lot.

In the news

Dr. John Roberts, professor of history, was interviewed and photographed by the State Journal-Register May 11 regarding his 48-year career at LLCC for this story today in the State Journal-Register. Dr. Victor Broderick, dean of social sciences, was also interviewed for the story.

Bill Harmon, agriculture program coordinator and professor; and Karen Sanders, executive director, LLCC Foundation, were interviewed by the Springfield Business Journal for an upcoming article on the $18 million Kreher Trust established to benefit the ag program.

Matthew Shaver, professor digital media, was interviewed May 10 by WICS/FOX 55 about the Endgame Arcadia Expo, which featured groups of students demonstrating video games they had created.

In the community

Dr. Chris McDonald, professor of political science, will be speaking to the Cass County Historical Society on June 9 about the shadow cast by the World War I over the rest of the 20th century and continues into the 21st century. In his discussion, McDonald will examine some of the issues that lie behind the outbreak of the “Great War,” trace the development of the conflict focusing on some of the ways that it differed from previous conflicts and presaged many modern wars, and look at the contested nature of the peace that followed it.
