Nominate Outstanding Graduates and Student Speaker for Commencement 2025

As part of the cherished Commencement tradition at LLCC, we recognize the exceptional achievements of our students each year through the Outstanding Graduate and Student Speaker honors. This is your chance to highlight the remarkable students you’ve worked with, and we encourage you to consider nominating deserving candidates.

Nominations for Outstanding Graduate and Student Speaker will open in late February.
Please start thinking now about which students stand out for these recognitions. As faculty and staff, you have a unique opportunity to see your students grow, overcome challenges, and excel both academically and personally. You’ve witnessed their dedication, leadership, and the impact they’ve made on the LLCC community. Who among them deserves to be recognized?

Outstanding Graduate Criteria: The Outstanding Graduate is a student who:

  • Holds a GPA of 3.5 or higher
  • Demonstrates leadership among their peers
  • Has participated in service to the college community
  • Has overcome significant obstacles to achieve their academic and personal goals.

Student Speaker Criteria: The Student Speaker represents the voice of the graduating class. This student should have:

  • Positively represented LLCC during their time here.
  • A unique voice or experience related to the theme of change, persisting or overcoming challenges.
  • A willingness to collaborate with faculty and staff to refine their speech
  • The ability to share how their LLCC experience has transformed them and inspired a desire to make meaningful changes in their life and community.

Nominees must meet graduation requirements by the end of the summer 2024 term, fall semester 2024, or be candidates for graduation at the end of the spring or summer 2025 terms. A full list of potential graduates will be posted on LincIn in late February, along with nomination forms and instructions.

We encourage you to start thinking about who could make a lasting impact in representing LLCC at Commencement 2025. The Vice President of Student Services will be seeking nominations for the Student Speaker and Outstanding Graduate from late February to March, with more details posted soon. If you have further questions please email Gailyn Draper or call 217-786-2213.

Mindfulness in the Workplace, Feb. 6

Join Bridget Rolens, a mindfulness-based stress reduction teacher, for the upcoming Mindfulness in the Workplace session.

Bridget notes that many wonder how “mindfulness” can help us deal with the stress we encounter at work? The answer lies in this definition of mindfulness: Mindfulness is consciously bringing awareness to our here-and-now experience with openness, interest and a willingness to be with what is.

In this workshop participants will:

  • Identify stressful situations related to work and investigate what makes them stressful.
  • Gain a general understanding of how mindfulness can help decrease stress at work.
  • Engage in mindfulness exercises that support a reduction of stress in the workplace and in life in general.

Date: Thursday, Feb. 6
Time: 10-11 a.m.
Location: Robert H. Stephens Room

About the presenter:
Bridget RolensBridget is certified as a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) teacher by the Mindfulness-Based Professional Training Institute of University of California San Diego. She has developed programming for Hospital Sisters Health System Mind-Body Health Services; served as an MBSR teacher for MEDEX, a research study (sponsored by Washington University in St. Louis) to examine the benefits for older adults of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), health education, and exercise to improve memory, attention, and concentration; and created an 8-week MBSR program for Masterpeace Studios in St. Louis, MO.
