Child Development Center chosen for best practices video

Mary Beth Ponser being interviewed for educational videoThe LLCC Child Development Center was selected to be the site for video footage on Best Practices in Early Childhood Education. These videos will be part of the resources available to higher education faculty across the state as part of the Early Childhood Education (ECE) Competency Modularization Project for the ECE higher education commission. The project has been coordinated by the Illinois Network of Child Care Resource and Referral Agency and funded through a grant from the Preschool Development Grant for Birth to Five.

The filming of staff interviews took place on Monday, Nov. 15.  Mary Beth Ponser (pictured), child development teacher; Cassy Taylor, child development assistant; and Laurie Rhodes, director, were interviewed for the video.  On Tuesday, specific aspects were filmed such as teacher/parent interactions during the morning drop-off, playground safety, gross motor room safety, classroom supervision, story time, formal meeting with a parent and a 30 minute video tracking the movements of one child in the classroom.  They concluded the video shoot on Wednesday with filming the learning activities in the classroom.  The segments now go back for editing and should be concluded by the end of this year.

Gifts will be used to replenish the Pay It Forward student emergency assistance fund; the general scholarship fund for students with a demonstrated financial need; and for the greatest needs of the college. Thanks also to everyone who helped spread the word about our mission by sharing information about Giving Day on social media and by email. What a wonderful show of support for our students during this season of giving! Donations can still be made to Giving Day on-line at www.LLCCFoundation.org or in the Foundation office in Menard Hall. Operation Full Belly a success!

Over the past several weeks, LLCC’s Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society collected 245 items for the LLCC Food Pantry and raised over $1,700 as part of their Operation Full Belly project. The project’s goal was to restock the pantry with food and hygiene items, as well as educate students on the services available to them. PTK collaborated with LLCC Student Life and TRIO Student Support Services and assembled Thanksgiving-themed meal bags full of shelf-stable side dishes. Thirteen bags were prepared and delivered to students, with an additional seven students receiving grocery gift cards to purchase meals of their choosing.

We are so proud to share this outstanding display of generosity and teamwork! Students who would like to learn more about the LLCC Food Pantry can contact Student Life at 217-786-2241 or StudentLife@llcc.edu.
