LLCC Student Services is on the move!

This week, LLCC Student Services has begun to move into the newly remodeled space in Menard Hall. The moves are being phased in over the course of the next week. This has required a lot of hard work and coordination by all involved, and we appreciate your patience during the moving process.

Accessibility Services invites you to “take what you need”

Stop in to browse the office supply “garage sale” just outside of the current LLCC Accessibility Services office in Millennium Center, Room 1120! As several departments and staff make the move to Menard Hall this week, the number of items on the tables that are no longer needed is growing and has some good … and interesting … items! Please drop by and take what you need.

Multicultural Fest happens today!

Everyone is invited to celebrate LLCC’s 20th annual Multicultural Fest today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Trutter Center.

On the Springfield campus, local food trucks are offering free samples at the event. Restaurants serving from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. include Azteca, B & W and Gyros Stop.

Entertainment will be provided by DJ Yinka, Tebe Zalango (spoken word), Tom Irwin (music) and student performers from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Expressions Body Art & Design will offer henna body art from 11 a.m.to 2 p.m.

College and community partners with exhibits include LLCC Logger Activities Board, LLCC Adult Education, Springfield Baha’i Faith, Garvey Tubman Cultural Arts and Research Center, the Immigration Project, Illinois Migrant Council, Springfield Lincoln Library, Lithuanian American Club of Central IL, Islamic Society of Greater Springfield, Springfield Center for Independent Living, Unity of Springfield and the World Affairs Council of Central Illinois.

Outreach Center celebrations

LLCC-Jacksonville, 32 N. Central Park Plaza, will provide food from local restaurants, trivia and displays from English language learning students from 2-3 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10.

LLCC-Litchfield, 1 Lincoln Land Dr., will feature food from local restaurants and a variety of coffee from different countries from 12:30 to 3 p.m. on Oct. 9.

LLCC-Taylorville, 800 S. Spresser, will showcase snacks from around the world and grab-and-go activities from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 9.

LATEST EDITION OF LLCC’s FORWARD MAGAZINE AVAILABLE

The latest edition of Lincoln Land Community College’s FORWARD magazine will soon be arriving in mailboxes and is now available online.

The magazine covers the latest happenings at LLCC. There are articles about the new Student Services Hub, LLCC’s newest program — cardiovascular sonography, how virtual reality is being incorporated into teaching, what questions to ask when looking at colleges, GED prep and English language learning opportunities and how LLCC makes transferring seamless for students continuing their degree.

This edition also provides spotlights on Amanda Peabody, ADN (faculty), Yannik Kabakaba (student), Tyler Berola (alumni) and Fabiola Gonzalez (staff).

There is also a list of LLCC degrees, certificates and continuing education opportunities.

The fourth of five LLCC workgroups, inspired by convocation, meets tomorrow, Oct. 10 from 1-3 p.m. in Kreher Agriculture Center, Room 1117.

Choosing a Health Care Career: Pathways & Entry Barriers

The need for health care providers is increasing in a post-COVID world that has led to a decrease in those choosing health care careers. That means that we need to promote pathways and career opportunities in those fields while also reducing/eliminating barriers to enrollment. This does not mean reducing quality, but it does mean we need to make entry for qualified applicants more seamless and demonstrate that our programs should be the health care programs of choice throughout our district.

Hispanic Heritage Month with John Paul Jaramillo today

Join us for Cultural Conversations with LLCC’s own Latino author John Paul Jaramillo, today, Oct. 9, in the LLCC Library at 2 p.m. Hear him read excerpts from his book “Little Mocos.” Jaramillo will take us on a journey with a young Hispanic boy named Manito who yearns for truth and understanding in a complex poor Latino family living in Colorado. Share your own stories with patriarchs, matriarchs and other family members who influenced your lives.

Faculty Development: Beyond Laziness: Uncovering Hidden Barriers to College Success

As faculty, we have all struggled to understand why students miss assignments, don’t come to class, procrastinate when taking exams, etc. Instead of contributing this behavior to laziness or apathy, what if we tried to identify potential barriers that might be precipitating these actions and devise targeted interventions to mitigate their effects? This webinar provides strategies to find, understand, and alleviate potential hidden barriers to student success in higher education.

Join us for, Beyond Laziness: Uncovering Hidden Barriers to College Success, this Thursday, Oct. 10 from 1-2:30 p.m. in Sangamon 1102 or on Teams. Register online.

Presenters include, Ann Armbruster, director, student support services; Alex Berry, associate vice president, student success; Candace Silas, director, WEI and PATH.

This workshop will begin with a viewing of a live webinar in Sangamon 1102 at 1 p.m., followed by a discussion led by LLCC staff until 2:30 p.m. Those who attend both parts in-person will receive 2 points. Those who attend only the discussion on Teams will be awarded 1 point.

LLCC Human Resources is offering a session titled “Finding Joy in Your Work” with David Ziebler on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 10 a.m. Attendees will explore the keys to rediscovering joy and fulfillment in their professional lives. Whether you’re feeling burnt out, disengaged, or simply looking for ways to enhance your work experience, this training will provide actionable strategies to reconnect with the passion and purpose behind your daily tasks. Lincoln Land Community College’s annual Giving Day is Nov. 15! We need your help! Become a Giving Day Ambassador. Giving Day is a 24-hour fundraising event designed to unite our alumni, donors and community friends who believe in supporting our students. It’s a day dedicated to giving back, where every donation, no matter the size, contributes to making a difference in the lives of our students. Giving Day Ambassadors are the champions of our cause, using their networks to amplify our message and inspire generosity using social media and email. We will provide all the material to make it easy to share. Your efforts will contribute to the success of LLCC students by helping to provide the latest technology, creating new initiatives, and upgrading equipment.
