Generative AI in Education

More seats have been made available for faculty interested in Teaching With Artificial Intelligence. This self-paced, online course is presented by the Biggio Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning at Auburn University. Participants will earn an AI Explorer Badge from Auburn University.

In this self-paced online course, you will study the impact of the AI disruption of higher education continues to evolve and we are updating content as we learn more. This course represents a curated repository of inputs from a range of sources, disciplines, and stakeholders. The experiences, examples, and emphasis of the course is on faculty and students, and it is being created in collaboration with both. We do not position ourselves as experts on these matters, rather the course weaves expertise from a diverse range of faculty in order to provide a meaningful learning experience to a diverse range of learners. There are many interactive opportunities throughout the course to share your expertise and ideas. Our primary goal is to support you in thinking through the urgent questions that the AI disruption of higher education presents and to create opportunities for you to learn from and with others so that you are confident in supporting your students as we redesign our courses and navigate this shifting landscape together.

Free Mental Health Assessments

Memorial Behavioral Health Mobile Crisis Response Team will be offering FREE mental health assessments for students on Monday, Oct. 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the A. Lincoln Commons lounge.

They will provide assessments on stress inventory, anxiety and depression. MBH will also have staff on site to discuss results and to provide follow up coping skills and resources.

Early Registration Event Today

It’s time for students to register for spring semester classes. LLCC Student Success will be hosting an early registration event to encourage students to register for spring classes. This event takes place today, Oct. 17, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons. Students can make appointments with their advisors, learn about resources and apply for graduation, and students who register and make payment arrangements by Wednesday, Dec. 4 will be eligible for a gift package. Please encourage your students to stop by.

The final LLCC workgroups, inspired by convocation, meets today, Oct. 17 from 1-3 p.m. in the Robert H. Stephens Room.

Just-in-Time Programming

Traditional students will always be a part of our student body, however potential adult students and employers are looking for other options. There is increasing need for short-term programming to learn basic new skills, get a quick refresher on a subject, prepare for a new job, keep up with current job requirements, or seek opportunities for a promotion. This means building new certificate/program offerings that provide the opportunity to “ramp on and ramp off” to meet more immediate work needs of current students, potential students, and employers.

We extend our condolences

We extend our sympathy to Samuel and Tamie Penning, systems administrators in information technology, on the loss of Samuel’s mother Debra Sue Smith Penning on Oct. 7. A private remembrance is being planned for a later date. Read the obituary.

Additionally, we offer our condolences to Sara Bachmann, instructor of nursing, on the passing of her brother, Joseph Duncan Irwin, on Oct. 14. Read the obituary.

LLCC Student Radiographer Association volunteers

LLCC Radiography students volunteering at HSHS Mission Outreach.The LLCC Student Radiographer Association volunteered at HSHS Mission Outreach on Nov. 10. Mission Outreach is an organization that accepts medical supply donations from all over the U.S. These donations are sorted at the center and then shipped overseas to various countries in need. Seventeen members of the club members sorted, counted, weighed, and boxed supplies to help expedite the process! They are current students of LLCC’s Associate Degree Radiography Program and demonstrated a strong commitment to bettering healthcare concerns across the world!

UPDATE: The Journaling and Mindfulness session for Oct. 17 has been cancelled. HR hopes to reschedule the event in the coming weeks.
