Dee Krueger, director, LLCC-Taylorville, was interviewed by WTIM Monday, June 17, about Juneteenth activities, registration for fall classes and LLCC’s upcoming summer open house event for prospective students interested in starting or restarting college or training for a new career.

Members of LLCC’s Black Student Union participated in Springfield’s annual Juneteenth Unity Parade on Saturday. Read about the parade on WMAY.

Congratulations to the 2024 Dick Dhabalt Athletes of the Year

2024 Dick Dhabalt Award winners, Grant Pohlman and Marley Smith.The 2024 Dick Dhabalt Athlete of the Year Award at LLCC went to Grant Pohlman of Carrollton, with men’s baseball, and Marley Smith of Auburn, with women’s basketball.

The LLCC Dick Dhabalt Athlete of the Year Award recognizes annually one LLCC male athlete and one female athlete. The award was established in February 2015 in honor of Mr. Dhabalt, former athletic director, head men’s basketball coach and faculty member, and acknowledges his dedication to education, athletics and students at LLCC.

Juneteenth Fact of the Day

The Journey of JuneteenthOpal Lee is called the grandmother of Juneteenth. She began walking state to state in 2016 to draw the attention of lawmakers, to have the date declared a federal holiday. Congress passed legislation declaring it so. President Biden signed the bill into law on June 17, 2021. Read more at Mental Floss.

Make plans to celebrate Juneteenth Freedom Day at LLCC on June 19, 2024, with the second annual Freedom Walk at 8:30 a.m. Each day before the celebration, the LLCC Juneteenth Committee will share a fact about this historic day.
