Montgomery County Career Day
Although Mother Nature got in the way of all four Montgomery County schools attending, LLCC-Litchfield hosted nearly 150 high school juniors from Litchfield and Nokomis high schools at the Montgomery County Career Day on Friday, Feb. 25. At the event, students learned about job qualifications, what a typical workday looks like and the job outlook for several careers in Montgomery County. Students were also provided the option for additional career exploration.
LLCC faculty and staff that participated in the event included: Dr. Amanda Roche, Sarah Laurent, Cathleen Ferguson, Tara Walk, Bill Harmon, Curt Robinson, Jeff Gardner, Jeff Martin, Marina Wirsing, Cathy Huffman, Jessie Blackburn, Tisha Miller, Christine Marietta, Adrienne Frazier and Jacquelyn Robinson. Recording of roundtable discussion on the Ukraine crisis available
A roundtable discussion on the Ukraine crisis was held yesterday, March 2, at 2 p.m. in the Trutter Center and via Zoom. More than 65 people attended the session in person, and there were an additional 35 Zoom logins.
Presenters were Chris McDonald, Ph.D., professor of political science; Matt Schownir, Ph.D., assistant professor of history; and Samuel Barbour, instructor of economics. They offered an explanation of the situation in Ukraine from their perspectives along with political and historical background and analysis. An open discussion period followed.

LLCC Ag hosts Professional Agriculture Student competition
The LLCC agriculture program hosted 122 students from 10 Illinois colleges and universities for the recent Illinois Professional Agriculture Student (PAS) Annual Conference in the college’s new Kreher Agriculture Center.
The event brought agriculture students together to compete in career preparation events and develop leadership skills. Twenty-two LLCC students participated in a variety of contests for the privilege of representing Illinois at the National PAS Conference in Minneapolis, Minn. in March.
Individual LLCC results:
Mackenzie Harmon, Morrisonville, second place in Agriculture Education Contest; Kylie Schakel, Atlanta, Ind., third place in Prepared Public Speaking.
LLCC team event results:
Crop Specialist: first place. Individual placings: Clayton Walch, Raymond, first place; Fuller Anderson, Atwater, fifth place; Charlie Gum, Talulla, ninth place; Shawn Goebel, Harvel, 11th place; Wyatt Buckles, Mechanicsburg, 12th place.
