FY20 planning and budgeting process starts March 18

The FY20 planning and budgeting process starts Monday, March 18. We will continue to use the new SharePoint form that was developed last year. The form streamlines the submission process, successfully collapsing all the previous forms into one easy-to-use form. Users can access the form beginning Monday, March 18 for submission of items for the FY20 planning and budgeting year. Users are asked to submit their items between March 18 and April 5. Access to the form will close at the end of the day Friday, April 5.

To aid budget managers in submitting Existing Budget Increase/Decrease (budget maintenance) requests, the  budget office will email budget baseline worksheets to users the week of March 18. Please wait to submit Existing Budget Increase/Decrease requests until you have received these worksheets. If you are a budget manager of an auxiliary unit and are making budget maintenance adjustments, you are required to attach the baseline worksheets to your forms prior to submission. See direction pdf for more information.

Written directions and instructional videos have been created to assist users with form completion. These items and the link to the Planning & Budgeting SharePoint form will be posted to the FY2020 Planning & Budgeting link on the Finance Department’s SharePoint page and available for users Monday, March 18.

Register for a raised bed in the LLCC Community Garden

Faculty, staff, students and community members can now register for a raised bed in the LLCC Community Garden. As a garden participant you will manage your own space to grow the fruits or vegetables of your choice all season long. A $20 garden fee allows you to choose one or two raised beds. There are also options for three and four beds available, depending on the amount of space you are willing to manage. Raised beds are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis until filled. First-time gardeners are welcome!

There are many documented benefits of gardening – it is cheaper to grow your own food; you can reduce stress through gardening activities and connecting with the soil; and you can eat a healthier, more delicious diet by incorporating whole foods that you grow yourself.

The LLCC Community Garden is located behind the Workforce Careers Center and Montgomery Hall. We have secured funding this year for new fencing for the garden area. Hopefully this will detour the deer population and other garden pests from produce and flowers.

Contact Darla Cochran at 786-2407 or darla.cochran@llcc.edu for more information about the LLCC Community Garden and to inquire about garden space availability.

Safe Zone training

LLCC Student Life is hosting a Safe Zone training on Tuesday, March 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the R.H. Stephens Room. Lunch will be provided. This event is open to faculty, staff and students. Please register for this event so we can have an accurate count for lunch.

Safe Zone training is an opportunity to learn about LGBTQ+ identities, gender and sexuality, and examine prejudice, assumptions and privilege. Participants who complete this training will receive a LLCC Safe Zone Trained certificate and sticker. Even if you have been through a safe zone training before, this will be an excellent way to refresh!

Message from the president

I am pleased to inform you that on Feb. 27, 2019, the LLCC Board of Trustees approved collective bargaining agreements for full-time and part-time faculty. With the new agreements in place, the college is moving forward with salary and insurance adjustments for administrators, classified staff and professional staff retroactive to July 1, 2018.

The college has increased the annual amount it contributes toward health insurance coverage from $10,400 to $10,920 for plan year 2019. On March 15, a premium refund will be issued for those covered under the Open Access Plan and a health savings account deposit or premium adjustment will occur for those covered under the High Deductible Plan.

On March 31, salaries will be adjusted to reflect a 3.97 percent increase retroactive to July 1, 2018 with a retroactive payment. Please note that salaries were already increased by 2 percent, so the adjustment will be for an additional 1.97 percent. Those employees who started on or after January 1, 2018 are only eligible for ½ of the overall increase. Only current, active employees are eligible for these adjustments. The Human Resources office will send individual correspondence with additional details.

Charlotte Warren, Ph.D.
President
