LLCC to welcome new VP Aug. 1
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Kelli Sinclair as the vice president of student services. Sinclair has an extensive background working in all areas of student services at Aurora University, Elgin Community College, and most recently as executive dean for student success at Waubonsee Community College. She co-created a student success coaching program which increased retention for high-need students by 12-15% per year for five years. Her past work reflects a collaborative approach in working with faculty and staff to build relationships and to ultimately improve student success. We look forward to her joining our staff on Aug. 1.

Child Development Center earns NAEYC accreditation
LLCC’s Child Development Center has earned continuing accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the world’s largest organization working on behalf of young children.
NAEYC accreditation is a rigorous quality-improvement system that uses a set of 10 research-based standards to recognize and drive quality-improvement in high-quality early learning environments. Less than 10% of all childcare centers, preschools and kindergartens nationally achieve this recognition.
“We’re proud to have again earned the mark of quality from NAEYC and are committed to serve as a model of best practice in the field of early childhood education for children, families and the community,” said Laurie Rhodes, director of the LLCC Child Development Center.
“We are excited that we passed with a 99.05% rate and received an above average rating on our classroom and program portfolios. Classroom observations received a 100% score. These are exceptional scores as we only needed 80% to pass. Accreditation is not the work of one team member alone. Every single person on staff had a part in putting together portfolios and meeting standards during the classroom observation period. Kudos to each and every one of our staff.”
The center, which has been accredited through NAEYC since 1995, serves children ages 15 months until entry to kindergarten, offering childcare to LLCC students and community members while serving as a model teaching lab for students.
